Buy A Nail Polish Because A Man Tells Me To? No Way.
Am I the only one who is sick of seeing the Revlon nail polish advertisements where there is a man’s face being caressed by some gorgeously painted nails? This advertisement contains so many of the problems with how the media advertises to women.
1. They segregate the woman’s body into parts. All we see are her hands, she is just a pair of hands with no personality other than the color of her nails. I’m no professional, but seeing parts of the woman’s body by itself can not be good for young girls confidence. Its like saying, girls aren’t important enough to fully be in this commercial, just to accentuate the man.
2. Speaking of not being important, the latest commercial on television is the guy talking about the colors! Like, don’t paint your nails for yourself, but paint them because this attractive man says ”deep red screams sexiness to me”(Revlon).
3. “Watch Five allruing men experience the #PowerOfColor with Revlon Nail Enamel.” This quote is published with the youtube video of their commercial. Why ladies, should we care what an alluring man has to say about the color of our nails? I was under the impression that my manicure is for me to enjoy.
I love getting my nails painted, but not because a bunch of “alluring” men tell me to. Wear Revlon if it makes you happy, go bare if you want to, but please don’t pick up a beauty trend because a hot guy tells you to.
