I’m white. Let’s get that out of the way. Born of a British man and an Irish woman, I am as white as can be. My grandparents are all white. My great grandparents are all white. I recognize how much of a benefit this is to me. I’m also nonbinary, DMAB, and a trans woman (I’m a demigirl, partial female, partial neutrois).

Now that we’ve cleared that up, onto the meat of this:

Stop using the term princex. It’s a title reserved for indigenous people, and POC. I know what you’re thinking, “But it’s so cute and perfect!”. That’s what I thought too. I didn’t even know it wasn’t for white people until months after I first started using the term. But please, this term is not for us to use. Use one of the alternatives that have been created in the wake of this, like “princus” and “princen”. Those are two perfectly acceptable terms for you to use. 

Just don’t use “princex”, unless you’re referring to an indigenous person, or a POC. It’s cultural appropriation, and it’s very disrespectful. Please spread the word so we can give this term back to the people it belongs to.

And to all the indigenous and POC who have been hurt by our appropriation of your term, I’m truly very sorry. I hope that all the other white people who misused your term soon recognize the errors of their ways.
