Meet A Tattoo Artist Who Does For Women What A Surgeon Can’t

This dapper tattoo artist, Vinnie Myers, is serving a need I honestly did not know existed. And he’s damn good at it.

This is great and all but I’m a little salty that the NYT chose to do a piece on a male tattoo artist when a female doing the same work submitted an idea for this story previously. My tattoo artist in Richmond, VA, Amy Black, is brilliant and amazing and so talented. She started working with breast cancer survivors a few years ago and founded the Pink Ink Fund in 2011 which helps provide financial assistance for post-mastectomy tattooing. (They just officially became a 501(c)3 this week!) There’s a link to Amy’s tattoo studio (she’s the owner) on the Pink Ink site. 

Not trying to take away from the work this guy is doing because it’s great but I am here for female tattoo artists because the business is such a boys club. Amy does phenomenal work. Check out Pink Ink and her site (the train tattoo under the “Half Sleeve” section is me!). If you ever have the chance to get work done by her, DO IT! I miss her!

Also isn’t it weird how the focus on the headline a how great and special this guy is for helping these women and not how powerful these women are for finding a way to overcome something like a mastectomy in our society through artistic expression
