Personal preference is not resistance. Being a majority is not compulsory. 

wow i don’t really know how even to begin to respond to this, since we seem to be operating under fundamentally different understandings of how sexuality works. 

so let me spell it out real clear: i am a social constructionist. i believe that sexuality is not biologically determined, but constructed by society. in that framework, heterosexuality IS compulsory because society has made it into an economic and “biological” imperative that exists to subjugate women for the benefit of men. capitalism and patriarchy are structured so that until very recently, it was economically impossible for a woman to survive on her own without a man. science (done largely by men) has claimed that heterosexuality is a evolutionary and biological imperative necessary for the continuation of the species—ignoring the facts, of course, that reproduction doesn’t necessitate monogamous pair-bonding and that trans women exist and can reproduce with other women.

my lesbianism is not a ‘personal preference.’ i’m capable of attraction to people who aren’t women; i choose not to act on that attraction because society has always dictated that i should devote my life and energy to men, and i’m not about that. 

(this is basically just a super basic summary of adrienne rich’s “compulsory heterosexuality and lesbian existence,” which i highly recommend that everyone read, but especially people who feel like they need to reblog my posts and add their pointless, uninformed commentary.)

The entire LGBT community would disagree with you. Sexual preference is not constructed, its biological.
