How can anyone who is even slightly informed hold this position? There is a constant, on-going struggle in the United States to maintain women's access to reproductive services such as abortion.

Yes, women do need resources to press charges, whether those resources are money or time. Even if these services are free- many are, many aren't- that doesn't necessarily mean that the woman is in a position where she has that freedom in her schedule. For many women in this situation, they don't even have the freedom to take time off from work to pursue this option. If they take time off work, that means that much less money for living expenses, and it may very well mean termination of employment if your employer isn't willing to cooperate.

I have personally known at least a dozen women who were unable to get any legal action taken against the fathers of their children for upwards of 10+ years past the time they left. In order for the legal processes to function, the father has to be present and cooperative. If he is out of state and doesn't communicate anything back, you're largely shit out of luck.
