Yeah gender equality!!

[–]Blackllama79 20 ポイント21 ポイント

What does this have to do with gender equality? (serious)

[–]filthyridh 23 ポイント24 ポイント

on reddit, gender equality means "fantasizing about hurting females"

[–]unkiemonk 3 ポイント4 ポイント

But the females won't fuck them! They deserve it!

The fact that he can hit her back when she hits him. Big debate going on.

Edit: oh my people get upset. I was just refering to the evergoing debate about selfdefence. I did not say that this incident was justified, but that was not the question either. Read into the context people.

[–]firetyres 14 ポイント15 ポイント

I feel like it's a terrible example because the force used to respond is so radically disproportionate.

[–]Blank_username 36 ポイント37 ポイント

Playfully kicking someone (not hard) and throwing a ball at someones head as hard as you can is not a good example of this. The fact that people are cheering this on is pathetic.

[–]pointis [score hidden]

Whenever I see comments like this, I wonder if people like you are genuinely Jesus-types, or if you're the type of people who liked to fuck with others as a kid and didn't like to get hit in response.

Speaking as someone who has been hit in the head with a basketball thrown at full force, I'll tell you that it stings, but it doesn't cause lasting damage. And on the playground where I grew up, nobody would have batted an eye at this... unless it was a girl who got hit.

What I'm saying is this: he treated her as he probably would have treated a boy in the exact same circumstance. Whether this amount of violence is appropriate or not, it IS an example of gender equality (depending on how one assumes this kid would have treated a boy who kicked him in the rear).

This kid probably just didn't realize she was flirting with him and thought she was fucking with him just to be an asshole. I know we should always be like Jesus and turn the other cheek, but maybe next time she likes a boy, she'll pass him a fucking note in class instead of initiating violence.

[–]defrndr [score hidden]

like Jesus and turn the other cheek

That would be Gandhi

[–]Valgrinder [score hidden]

He was definitely in pain. Judging from his face and reaching for where he was kicked. So much for playful.

[–]TheCyanKnight [score hidden]

playful is in the meaning, not the result

[–]bleachisback 1 ポイント2 ポイント

I think it was more of a joke mocking the debate.

[–]Badong11 -3 ポイント-2 ポイント

Maybe she hit his nuts from behind? Happened to me once when someone was trying to kick me in the ass.

Possible that she hurt him a lot more then he hurt her.

[–]cerealkillr [score hidden]

Almost definitely not. You can see him reach back towards his leg after he's. kicked.

There could be something else going on - maybe he was being bullied and he snapped - but he wasn't hit in the nuts.

[–]Thoushaltbemocked [score hidden]

How's that even possible? If he was in that much pain he'd definitely not be able to respond the way he did.

[–]RockStarState 7 ポイント8 ポイント

A kick in the butt is hardly a ball to the head.

That aside, gender equality isn't both people getting to hit each other. No one gets to hit anyone, period. Both kids are in the wrong, and just because they are opposite genders doesn't magically make this about gender equality.

[–]hakkzpets [score hidden]

She most likely learnt that day that you don't go around and kick people in their buts.

[–]RockStarState [score hidden]

In my opinion it should have and could have been done without violence, both of them should learn that 1. You never hit or hurt other people intentionally and 2. You don't reciprocate violence or pain with violence or pain. That is my personal take, and I understand people don't agree which is totally cool. My point was just that their genders have nothing to do with what happened or their actions and it's kind of ridiculous to turn it into a debate about gender equality.

[–]pointis [score hidden]

Jesus did that, and we saw how that turned out for him.

Obviously that situation is a little different from this one, but seriously, ignore the gender equality issue for a sec. Violence is NEVER the answer? Ever? Really?

More props to you, bro. You're a better man than I. My maxim has been: if you fuck with me, I'll initiate a massive retaliatory response to ensure that you don't EVER do it again. And I don't fuck with others, because I'm afraid of people like me.

[–]unkiemonk 9 ポイント10 ポイント

All the emasculated virgins are getting their dicks hard over a little payback on those evil women. Keep calm and panic.

[–]kogeth 7 ポイント8 ポイント

What debate? There's no debate here. People get up in arms about whether a man is justified defending himself when a woman attacks him and the amount of force he can exert. That's not even close to what happened here. There was no self defense here, just an immature kid taking a retributive action.

Self defense isn't about "You hit me so now I get a free shot on you!" -- anybody who thinks that is wrong any anybody who acts like that deserves whatever punishment they get.

[–]a_tad_reckless 0 ポイント1 ポイント

No.

First of all, there is no debate. What you have, on Reddit particularly, is a bunch of angry men complaining that sexism affects them negatively more than it affects women. Bullshit. Just look at how this boy responds 100-fold in violence and gets cheered on by the Internet. Gross.

Second of all, knocking someone out or giving them a concussion in response to a little pat on the butt is incredibly inappropriate. Actually, no physical retaliation would be appropriate here. There's no threat of injury and the girl is walking away. There are safer, more effective ways to deal with this situation.

some newbie posted a downvoted comment questioning this "equality" and it got deleted, so i'm replying to it here:

i'm sorry to be the one who has to break it to you that unfortunately under the cover of an immature and hastily theorized "equal rights" reddit is a place where guys often advocate violence to make things "even," nevermind use of excessive force that goes beyond what is necessary to dispel the immediate threat of violence.

the fact that the guy here gets the benefit of the doubt ("he was probably hoping he would miss") while the girl who taps him in the butt is the "bitch" who deserves to get battered, and that any references to the contrary makes you a crazy feminazi srs shitlord, kinda tells you the unfortunate state of this bloodthirsty echo chamber.

this notion of "you hit me, i get to hit you back twice as hard" is the apex of reddit's maligned sense of gender equality. when it comes to equal pay, equal representation in politics, leadership positions, STEM fields, or a reconfiguration of the traditional division of gender roles, or an alternative to the normalized sexual objectification of women in the cultural marketplace, ...well you'll find that's all just bitches bitching about stuff that's already been disproven, and what it's really about is waiting around for a girl to hit you so you can hit her back, probably twice as hard.

you'll generally find any reference to gender equality that doesn't fit this abusive equation, or questioning if this lust for violence is excessive, will get you downvoted (with this thread already evincing that fact), and maybe called a faggot.

    so, welcome to reddit!

I really shouldn't. I spend way to much time here!

You're right about it being all over since the larger subs will have representatives from all communities and walks of life. I'm just saying it's a very small part of the community.

-Step 1: Someone posts a gif of children acting like children.

-Step 2: Someone else posts a stupid comment on said gif.

-Step 3: Yet another person posts an entire pages worth of text on supposedly rampant reddit sexism. Including strawman arguments, perceived strawman arguments from the "other side" and accusations that every male redditor is just waiting to hit a woman for any reason possible. You think you're being downvoted by a hivemind of oppressive, violent men on a crusade against women, but actually you're being downvoted by everyone who realizes that 2edgy4u jokes on the internet aren't indicative of what people are actually like and should be taken with a less than a micron of a grain of salt.

"Gender equality" these days typically means lobbying for an equal or greater female share of the advantages and privileges (be they real or perceived) enjoyed by men, while quite deliberately avoiding any of the disadvantages of being male... and/or denying that there are any disadvantages to being male in the first place.

In addition, the advantages and privileges enjoyed mainly by women—and there certainly are some, such as preferential treatment in divorce and family court, not being subject to the draft, not being expected to do physically difficult and/or dangerous jobs, receiving far lesser sentences for identical crimes compared to men, a special taboo against violence toward women, preferential treatment in certain professions (nursing, massage therapy, child care, elder care, secretarial work, etc.), not being viewed as potential rapists due to their gender, not being portrayed as bumbling idiots by the media, more social/government resources allocated to them, preferential treatment in modern schools and universities (60% of graduates in the US are now women)—women don't seem terribly interested in "equalizing" these things.

Also, the gender wage gap is a myth that has been thoroughly debunked by eminently credible sources:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/wp/2014/04/09/president-obamas-persistent-77-cent-claim-on-the-wage-gap-gets-a-new-pinocchio-rating/ http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303532704579483752909957472 http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2012/04/16/its-time-that-we-end-the-equal-pay-myth/ http://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-gender-pay-gap-is-a-complete-myth/

    [–]a_tad_reckless 0 ポイント1 ポイント

Also, the gender wage gap is a myth that has been thoroughly debunked by eminently credible sources

Proceeds to cite sources that explain that the "77-cent" statistic is misleading but there is a very real wage gap.

wat. Bro, you might just be a woman-hating asshat who can only scrape together a little self-dignity by perpetuating sexism online. Find something better to do with your life.
