The fact that he can hit her back when she hits him. Big debate going on.
Edit: oh my people get upset. I was just refering to the evergoing debate about selfdefence. I did not say that this incident was justified, but that was not the question either. Read into the context people.

Playfully kicking someone (not hard) and throwing a ball at someones head as hard as you can is not a good example of this. The fact that people are cheering this on is pathetic.
[–]pointis [score hidden] 13 分 前
Whenever I see comments like this, I wonder if people like you are genuinely Jesus-types, or if you're the type of people who liked to fuck with others as a kid and didn't like to get hit in response.
Speaking as someone who has been hit in the head with a basketball thrown at full force, I'll tell you that it stings, but it doesn't cause lasting damage. And on the playground where I grew up, nobody would have batted an eye at this... unless it was a girl who got hit.
What I'm saying is this: he treated her as he probably would have treated a boy in the exact same circumstance. Whether this amount of violence is appropriate or not, it IS an example of gender equality (depending on how one assumes this kid would have treated a boy who kicked him in the rear).
This kid probably just didn't realize she was flirting with him and thought she was fucking with him just to be an asshole. I know we should always be like Jesus and turn the other cheek, but maybe next time she likes a boy, she'll pass him a fucking note in class instead of initiating violence.

[–]cerealkillr [score hidden] 14 分 前
Almost definitely not. You can see him reach back towards his leg after he's. kicked.
There could be something else going on - maybe he was being bullied and he snapped - but he wasn't hit in the nuts.
[–]Thoushaltbemocked [score hidden] 2 分 前
How's that even possible? If he was in that much pain he'd definitely not be able to respond the way he did.
A kick in the butt is hardly a ball to the head.
That aside, gender equality isn't both people getting to hit each other. No one gets to hit anyone, period. Both kids are in the wrong, and just because they are opposite genders doesn't magically make this about gender equality.
[–]hakkzpets [score hidden] 13 分 前
She most likely learnt that day that you don't go around and kick people in their buts.
[–]RockStarState [score hidden] 9 分 前
In my opinion it should have and could have been done without violence, both of them should learn that 1. You never hit or hurt other people intentionally and 2. You don't reciprocate violence or pain with violence or pain. That is my personal take, and I understand people don't agree which is totally cool. My point was just that their genders have nothing to do with what happened or their actions and it's kind of ridiculous to turn it into a debate about gender equality.
[–]pointis [score hidden] just now
Jesus did that, and we saw how that turned out for him.
Obviously that situation is a little different from this one, but seriously, ignore the gender equality issue for a sec. Violence is NEVER the answer? Ever? Really?
More props to you, bro. You're a better man than I. My maxim has been: if you fuck with me, I'll initiate a massive retaliatory response to ensure that you don't EVER do it again. And I don't fuck with others, because I'm afraid of people like me.

What debate? There's no debate here. People get up in arms about whether a man is justified defending himself when a woman attacks him and the amount of force he can exert. That's not even close to what happened here. There was no self defense here, just an immature kid taking a retributive action.
Self defense isn't about "You hit me so now I get a free shot on you!" -- anybody who thinks that is wrong any anybody who acts like that deserves whatever punishment they get.
No.
First of all, there is no debate. What you have, on Reddit particularly, is a bunch of angry men complaining that sexism affects them negatively more than it affects women. Bullshit. Just look at how this boy responds 100-fold in violence and gets cheered on by the Internet. Gross.
Second of all, knocking someone out or giving them a concussion in response to a little pat on the butt is incredibly inappropriate. Actually, no physical retaliation would be appropriate here. There's no threat of injury and the girl is walking away. There are safer, more effective ways to deal with this situation.

A woman did this to a man and the comments would be frothing about how unfair it is that a man doing this to a woman would be copping shit.
But I think the difference in the tone of comments here is because they're just kids. At that age it's not an example of abuse or violence, just the stupid, thoughtless overreacting everyone does at some point or another. I wouldn't read too much into it.
[–]i_am_a_white_dude [score hidden] 3 分 前
"They're just kids" is a bit weird because, developmentally, a kid can totally show unhealthy violent behavior at the age of the kids in that gif. And, sadly, a lot of it has to do with seeing violence at home.
Any way you cut it, it's weird for this gif to make the frontpage with the title "bitch." Most of us are fully grown adults, or at least teenagers who should have some sense, and the worship of this gif to the point of making it one of the highest ranked submissions on one of the highest viewed websites should be troublesome to us.
Yeah, whenever this issue come up it seems like majority of people here have a real hard on for beating women.
I think that most people have a hard-on for fairness. If you start a fight with someone bigger than you don't whine about losing the fight. If you're going to hit someone, don't expect them to have the restraint you lack.
Reddit had the same sort of reaction when the video was going around of the big boy being bullied by a smaller boy. The smaller kid hit the bigger one and the big one picked him up and body slammed him. Reddit had the same reaction which was being on the side of the person who didn't hit first. Sure the big kid's response in both videos was disproportionate but in most cases, if you don't start none there won't be none.
Edited to add video....
Bully victim Fights back
If you start a fight with someone bigger than you don't whine about losing the fight.
Except legally, this isn't true. Responding with disproportionate force can result in harsher punishment. If someone slaps you, and you pull out a haymaker and knock them out cold, guess what? You're getting charged with battery, they're probably getting charged with assault.
Also, for someone to claim self defense at all, they have to demonstrate threat to life. Often times, an unarmed women isn't really a threat to a mans life, so a man never has a right to knock her out cold. If he does harm her, he's going to face serious charges.
[–]liatris [score hidden] 1 分 前
Yes, because getting hit in the head with a ball is equivalent to pulling "out a haymaker and knock them out cold."
I hate to tell you this but a lot of times in life there won't be a policeman right next to you protecting you. If you are interacting with people there are other rules that come into play aside from actual codified laws. One of those rules is don't start a fight with someone bigger than you because you are likely to get your ass kicked. Sure if you kick someone in a bar and they beat you to an inch of your life they might get in trouble but you will still have been beaten to an inch of your life.
That’s a bit fucked up too. And it’s blatantly, hilariously obvious why you redditors rally behind the causes you do—for the kid getting picked on, against those evil “pussy pass”-carrying she-creatures, against the black guy menacing a suburban neighborhood with a bag of Skittles. It’s all of a type with you redditors.
[–]liatris [score hidden] 12 分 前

[–]RedditsRagingId [score hidden] 4 分 前
And it’s the nature of you redditors to get hard watching guys beat the shit out of “bitches” half their size. Nothing new under the sun.
I can never agree strength isn't an issue in these situations and matter of who start what is something that would make it legitimate for the stronger side to disproportionally over react. That's logic I would expect maybe from someone of age of these kids on this gif, but reality just isn't as simple as that. If woman hit you and you hit her back and broke her nose, you can't expect you won't pay the consequences - you will and you should. You need to be aware you are the stronger side and act accordingly
Why would you expect a person who is bigger to show more judgement than the smaller person? If they are both kids why put a bigger duty on the boy to care for the girl's well being than the girl to care for herself or the boy?
The bigger share of the blame always goes to whoever hit first. The one who first breached the peace by introducing violence into a situation always carries more blame. I agree he over reacted but smaller people need to realize that actions have consequences. You don't pick fights then hope the other person has more concern for you than you have for them.
Well these two are kids, so I don't expect from them to show much judgement about anything.
But I would really like grown ups to have some sense and don't act like children with crap like "hey, you started it, so now I can beat you up, because that's what you get when you're messing with man".
But I would really like grown ups to have some sense
The sense I would hope adults to have is not to try to hit someone two or three times your size and then pray they are forgiving enough not to respond.
If you are small and weak yet you decide to start a fight don't complain when you get your ass beaten.
So following your logic, when 13yo kid hits grown up man, he is entitled to hit the kid back with full his strength because that kid started it and don't care about anything else? What you're saying is complete nonsense
[–]liatris [score hidden] 6 分 前
The problem with your analogy is that a full grown adult is not the equal to a 13 year in mental or emotional development. The only way for your analogy to work is if you say being larger means you automatically become mentally and emotionally superior to to smaller people. That is obviously not true.
So, if you have two people of equal mental capacities, equal emotional development ie two adults or two kids, why would you expect the bigger one to show more restraint, more judgement than the smaller one?
Why the fuck are you blaming the victim? If you don't want to get hit back, you don't hit people! That applies to people bigger than you, smaller than you, whatever.

They proved that though the burden may be unfair, acting as a scion of love and peace rather than revenge and retribution, we might better convince others of our just cause.
It doesn't help anyone to drive people into corners or put them on the defensive, if it's avoidable. Don't just prove that there is a feminist future, prove that it's brighter than the present. Good luck.

Every time on reddit when there is a man hitting a woman someone says it's gender equality. It's not equality you fucking idiots it's revenge. And it's not even just revenge it's sadistic revenge because it almost always involves the man hitting the woman harder than she hit him. By this sadistic revenge logic feminists should be cheering every time a man gets raped. YAY! More equality in the rape statistics!!! More violence for all!!! So fucking stupid. We don't want men to hit women more. We want all people to stop hitting each other. Any reasonable struggle for equality involves making it better for whoever has it worse, not making it worse for everyone.

How is a laughably light tap on the butt different from a kid punching another kid in the face and clearly trying to punch him again? Are you serious right now?
Yeah well she started it!!
Well, first things first, it's a kid throwing a ball to another kid. Secondly, the term "equality", in this situation, can be used to compare it if it was between two boys or, like in the gif, a boy and a girl. If it was with two boys, the reaction would be the same as in the gif so why was it wrong to react the same with a girl (since it was her who started) and call it "gender equality"? Just because a woman doesn't hit as hard as a man, it doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt.
Uh, this is a kid throwing a ball at another kid...not a man hitting a woman
So, what's wrong with revenge?
thanks for quoting the lot
No we should be cheering when a rapist gets raped. That's what you are trying to say.
I don't think he should have done. But this is equality.
That was treating a girl the same way you treat a guy. Yeah he hit harder than he was hit. And any guy knows there's a very good chance that will happen. Any guy from a very young age knows another kid double his size hits harder, and will likely use that power.
With all that said, of course he shouldn't have done it (even to a guy). And personally, in general, I don't like to see girls being treated equally to guys in these matters because they are different. Typically we're not only more resistant but also handle violence better.

Sperge.
You're a retard, that was just pure revenge after she hit him he hit back when people get raped in all cases they need to be helped when its stuff like this? its their own fault, its basically like you go rape someone and get raped yourself afterwards, you kinda deserve it then and im sure there would be some good people that would help you out but in my case i wouldnt even give a shit about you.
wtf?
Very well said. No one is trying to lower the standard for those who have it better. The effort is to raise the standard for those who have it worse.
Its a zero-sum game with finite resources. You most assuredly have to reduce one to raise up the others.

That's what she gets for sexually harassing and assaulting him. I bet she shit her pants!

some newbie posted a downvoted comment questioning this "equality" and it got deleted, so i'm replying to it here:
i'm sorry to be the one who has to break it to you that unfortunately under the cover of an immature and hastily theorized "equal rights" reddit is a place where guys often advocate violence to make things "even," nevermind use of excessive force that goes beyond what is necessary to dispel the immediate threat of violence.
the fact that the guy here gets the benefit of the doubt ("he was probably hoping he would miss") while the girl who taps him in the butt is the "bitch" who deserves to get battered, and that any references to the contrary makes you a crazy feminazi srs shitlord, kinda tells you the unfortunate state of this bloodthirsty echo chamber.
this notion of "you hit me, i get to hit you back twice as hard" is the apex of reddit's maligned sense of gender equality. when it comes to equal pay, equal representation in politics, leadership positions, STEM fields, or a reconfiguration of the traditional division of gender roles, or an alternative to the normalized sexual objectification of women in the cultural marketplace, ...well you'll find that's all just bitches bitching about stuff that's already been disproven, and what it's really about is waiting around for a girl to hit you so you can hit her back, probably twice as hard.
you'll generally find any reference to gender equality that doesn't fit this abusive equation, or questioning if this lust for violence is excessive, will get you downvoted (with this thread already evincing that fact), and maybe called a faggot.
so, welcome to reddit!

ok.

But in all seriousness, to pick a one of the more vocal minorities of reddit and prescribe the behavior to the whole community is.... not cool.
one of the more vocal minorities
You should browse reddit more because this attitude is everywhere on this site.
I really shouldn't. I spend way to much time here!
You're right about it being all over since the larger subs will have representatives from all communities and walks of life. I'm just saying it's a very small part of the community.

-Step 1: Someone posts a gif of children acting like children.
-Step 2: Someone else posts a stupid comment on said gif.
-Step 3: Yet another person posts an entire pages worth of text on supposedly rampant reddit sexism. Including strawman arguments, perceived strawman arguments from the "other side" and accusations that every male redditor is just waiting to hit a woman for any reason possible. You think you're being downvoted by a hivemind of oppressive, violent men on a crusade against women, but actually you're being downvoted by everyone who realizes that 2edgy4u jokes on the internet aren't indicative of what people are actually like and should be taken with a less than a micron of a grain of salt.

"Gender equality" these days typically means lobbying for an equal or greater female share of the advantages and privileges (be they real or perceived) enjoyed by men, while quite deliberately avoiding any of the disadvantages of being male... and/or denying that there are any disadvantages to being male in the first place.
In addition, the advantages and privileges enjoyed mainly by women—and there certainly are some, such as preferential treatment in divorce and family court, not being subject to the draft, not being expected to do physically difficult and/or dangerous jobs, receiving far lesser sentences for identical crimes compared to men, a special taboo against violence toward women, preferential treatment in certain professions (nursing, massage therapy, child care, elder care, secretarial work, etc.), not being viewed as potential rapists due to their gender, not being portrayed as bumbling idiots by the media, more social/government resources allocated to them, preferential treatment in modern schools and universities (60% of graduates in the US are now women)—women don't seem terribly interested in "equalizing" these things.
Also, the gender wage gap is a myth that has been thoroughly debunked by eminently credible sources:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/wp/2014/04/09/president-obamas-persistent-77-cent-claim-on-the-wage-gap-gets-a-new-pinocchio-rating/ http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303532704579483752909957472 http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2012/04/16/its-time-that-we-end-the-equal-pay-myth/ http://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-gender-pay-gap-is-a-complete-myth/

Proceeds to cite sources that explain that the "77-cent" statistic is misleading but there is a very real wage gap.
wat. Bro, you might just be a woman-hating asshat who can only scrape together a little self-dignity by perpetuating sexism online. Find something better to do with your life.
