It wasn't just saying she's cute though. It was "tell her a random dude on a forum thinks she's cute."

I mean, that doesn't contribute to the conversation at all, and it's basically just telling everyone you think she's hot. I can see why it would be considered creepy given the context (a very innocuous photo)

/u/puredemo is being a little antagonistic, but they're not wrong.

Telling a complete stranger what you think of their physical appearance is creepy. It just is. Even when you're flirting, that's just a bad opening move. You don't go up to someone at a bar and say "Hey, you're cute!". Because it's creepy. It's not a compliment. It's creepy.

Now when someone you know, or even just someone you've been talking to for a few minutes, says that same thing, it can come off as charming. Because there's some groundwork there, there's some understanding of where you stand with each other.

But doing it out of nowhere? To a stranger? Unsolicited? That's creepy. No one likes that.
