Hello Everyone,

I am going to try and do this with as little drama as possible. That said, I’m not happy, so there is going to be moderate drama. Either way, I felt it my job to explain myself to you guys, so the purpose of this is to fill you in before I go.

I’ve been a moderator of this subreddit for something over a year now. (Seriously, I have no idea; it may be closer to two years, now that I think about it.) Last night, I was unmodded. This was completely out of the blue and essentially without warning. I have attempted to discuss this with the other mods, to no avail; to be fair, most of them are completely in the dark about this.

I am not going to provide screencaps or detailed descriptions, because the specifics of what happened wasn’t important and I feel it is distasteful to reveal things that are said in private publicly. When we’ve released modmails before, we discussed it beforehand.

I am not a perfect person or a perfect moderator, but I have always done my best for you guys. I’ve been going through a difficult time lately, and a lot of huge changes have been going on in my personal life. The mod team is aware of all of this in excruciating detail. I’ve been very stressed out and a lot of what’s happened has left me feeling straight-up angry. Anger is not an emotion that I am used to. I’ve been clinically depressed for most of my life, and depression is essentially anger turned inwards. Instead of getting angry at anyone else, I just blamed myself. I’m now mentally healthy enough that I’m experiencing anger being directed outwards at the people who deserve it, and quite frankly, I haven’t the faintest idea of what to do with 26 years of anger bubbling to the surface. I’ve let more of that anger and frustration seep into my online persona than I should have, and for that I am sorry. It’s led to some inappropriate outbursts towards people who didn’t deserve more than a few stern words. I believe that may be why things happened the way they did.

Let me be clear: I have given this community 110%. I’ve put countless hours into moderating, blogging, and participating here. Between work, school, and the rest of my life, I’ve put in time that I don’t have. I’ve put in time when I shouldn’t. I took my job seriously and tried to build a community that I - that we - could be proud of. Shit, we’re 80,000 strong (wait, we broke 90,000? When did that happen?!) and we built this together. I haven’t had much time lately, and I haven’t had internet access at home, so a lot of that has been me attempting to moderate on Alien Blue, which doesn’t work so well. I wish to god I’d finished the Oppression Olympics for you guys and I’m so sorry about that. But despite all that, you know what? I’ve done a good job. I built a spinoff subreddit, I helped tie together the sister subs, and I wish I’d had more time to do all that I had planned for you guys. I’ve given you all that I could possibly give. I’ve put so, so much into this community, and I believe in you, and I wanted to make this a great place.

Part of the huge changes I’ve been making in my life is to get rid of toxic people. I deserve to be treated like an adult, to be told the truth, to be able to say my piece when problems arise and be given an opportunity to resolve problems amicably. I don’t deserve to be kicked out of a community I helped build and have been an active participant in. That isn’t what I’m about, and let’s be real, that’s not what TiA is about, either. Unfortunately, this means I will not only be off the moderation team, but I will no longer be participating in TiA or TiAD.

TiA, I’m so, so sorry to leave you. I love you guys. You’re the best. This was not my choice and I wish things were different.

I wasn't going to air all this in public but since Miss_A insists on being an drama whore...

For a long while now she's been very abrasive with the other mods and many users. A couple of the other mods have actually avoided modding on here specifically because of Miss_A. She was acting just the same to me as well. The incident that was the last straw was when Miss_A outright insulted another mod for having a slightly anti-MR opinion which Miss_A disagreed with. Instead of politely disagreeing and starting a debate she starts shouting and swearing at this mod.

Before all of this, I should add, she had already had multiple run-ins with other mods and a couple mods had expressed their concern about her being ineffective in her position.

Anyway, I told her to calm down because she shouldn't be attacking the other mods - I let her know, in these exact words, that I expect a level of civility from the mods and she needs to keep to it. In response she hurled insults at me and told me to stop "tone policing" her and told me "I'm not your sub." I warned her one last time she needs to calm down and I will remove her if she doesn't. She didn't. So I then removed her as a mod.

After this, she sent me multiple PMs pleading to be let back in and sent a bunch to every other mod, even blaming the one she got into an argument with for her removal.

Here are the screenshots so you can all look over events for yourself. Again - I intended to keep all this between the mods, but if Miss_A wants you to all know about it, it's only fair you know all the facts:

Messages from other mods (names omitted for obvious reasons) telling me they disliked Miss_A and agreed with my decision: 1, 2.

Now, as far as Miss_A's personal life goes, I don't think that's relevant. I have been understanding of it as a friend but if she insists on bringing down TiA down with her she will not be allowed to mod TiA. I believe I have made the right decision for the community. I don't respect Miss_A for trying to guilt trip and manipulate all of you into supporting her either. But now I have responded I will leave the thread up in the interests of openness.

I have no experience with Starshine outside of sorta recognizing the name, but RES says I have neither up or down voted them. Furthermore, I do not know what was actually said or whether the opinion of someone I'm told is regularly abrasive can be fully trusted here, but... I have to admit: some of this puts me more on Miss_A's side. It is downright offensive if one of the TiA mods believes anyone who advocates for the rights of men, or who thinks modern third-wave feminism has become a dangerous ideology must be at least "slightly misogynistic."

That is bullshit and should make people angry. I can understand still demanding that the team get along so as to not descend into outright hostility, but no one with a view that belongs on Tumblr should be moderating this community. If Starshine is as Miss_A says, I honestly believe her anger in this occasion is fully warranted.

Edit: having now seen the offending comment, I'd argue that it's frankly kind of limp-wristed middle-ground stupid, but not worth flipping your shit over or the sentiment of a full-blooded Tumblrina.

      I find it very interesting that she presented anti-feminism views, which i must admit i also have, and that those where behind the ModMail drama. That said i think that impartiality, objectivity and of course respect for other mods are fundamental for the prosperity and future of TiA.

      I've been a subscriber for quite a while now, and i can say that i am happy with the sub progression, and while i realize that others might not be i still believe in EFS moderation and vision for TiA.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with the opinion, Miss_A's reaction was ridiculous.

      Hrm. It depends on your perspective on what exactly mens rights and feminism is. I wouldn't say there is hatred involved in simply acknowledging that you support that particular cause, but I would say that in order to carry some of the prevailing attitudes in either approach, you need to have properties that might be described as hatred.

      It's not an unreasonable comment, just a slightly unqualified one and perhaps also slightly dismissive. I find both sides extremely irrational on the whole, but am willing to give ground to both since on many issues, they have good points.

        Miss_anthropyy seems unpleasantly surprised but comfortable moving on to the next thing. And there are obviously a lot of details we don't know - those details could be benign or they could be ugly (consider that the mods might be being relatively quiet as a matter of courtesy).

        Depends. I imagine that had I been a mod and were demodded for being an abrasive cockhole to fellow moderators I could, to some extent, eventually accept it.

        And then just be an abrasive cockhole to other users, it tends to net you more karma anyways.

        It's not so much that she isn't welcome, but rather that she was a hassle as a moderator to other moderators. Which would lead to internal strife in a modding team which is never good.

        I’ve been clinically depressed for most of my life, and depression is essentially anger turned inwards. Instead of getting angry at anyone else, I just blamed myself. I’m now mentally healthy enough that I’m experiencing anger being directed outwards at the people who deserve it, and quite frankly, I haven’t the faintest idea of what to do with 26 years of anger bubbling to the surface. I’ve let more of that anger and frustration seep into my online persona than I should have, and for that I am sorry. It’s led to some inappropriate outbursts towards people who didn’t deserve more than a few stern words. I believe that may be why things happened the way they did.
