I'm not sure if it was because I argued that the Basmala was not claiming the White House for Islam and then subsequently telling them that posts like that were what make people hate conservatives (post here), if it was for arguing that a proposed amendment making all bills single-issue was a bad idea (post here), or, more likely, arguing with a farmer who was trying to say that his subsidies weren't subsidies (post here).
Either way, I think this just showed the farcical nature of /r/conservative. I actually consider myself very much a centrist, but on the scale of some on the far right, that makes me the craziest liberal there is. I even made a concerted effort to reign in my more liberal views to provide a real, reasoned conversation, but that didn't work either. How dare I use reason and logic to try to make conservatives more palatable to the real world?? How dare I defend Obama (in one specific instance)?? How dare I try to explain economics??? And most importantly, HOW DARE I ARGUE AGAINST THE MOD /u/Clatsop????
I actually didn't know this place existed until I got a message because someone linked my username saying, "I wonder how long until he gets banned." I thought it was a joke. Guess not. It seems to me that this is the fundamental problem with conservativism in America today. Anyone who doesn't agree is silenced so that the echo-chamber can continue to echo, providing a false sense of consensus. Notice how often conservatives believe themselves to be the voice of the American people but are SHOCKED when it doesn't turn out that way. They find ways to blame it on the media, etc, without realizing that it is their own myopia that is leading them to not only not adapt to the changing American landscape, but also to fail to get a larger, lasting support base.
I know this post got away from me a bit, but I think it's important to think about these things in a setting such as /r/ShitRConservativeSays, which is, theoretically, not just a liberal circle-jerk, but a mirror to be held up to the "conservatives" to show them how ridiculous they can be.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
