And you're one of the people that keeps the myth going.
You know that 'pear shaped' refers to fat storage right? OP said he started out that way. Doing any routine and not addressing the fat stores already there was going to leave him similarly shaped.
Use your fucking brain, dude.

Right, but when you're already looking like a disadvantaged mountain of legs at the beginning, how does squatting 3 times a week with progressive overload seem like a good idea? Sure, SS is fine for getting someone into the gym for the first few weeks because it's an easy enough program to stick with, but it's not a myth when there are multiple examples or it happening. Dude should have picked a different routine that made sense with what he was starting with.

I would like to add that the main reason to do SS is to learn HOW to lift.
In my opinion, learning how to 5 lifts correctly as well as the fundamentals of how to lift barbells is important. Putting people who are inexperienced at weightlifting on routines that require 10-20 lifts is kinda silly (at first).

You're being just as dumb than the people you're attempting to rail against.
Dude had fat legs to start with. You don't fix fat legs in the gym or with some special program. You fix it with your diet.
Use. Your. Fucking. Brain.

The insults aren't necessary to correct Neil.

No, it's my fault. I shouldn't have offended the holy Rippetoe.

In that thread, the OP's legs - and body overall - don't look fat at all. His legs just look disproportionately muscular.
[–]eric_twingeOutranked by a bot -1 ポイント0 ポイント1 ポイント 8 時間 前*
You guys are really fucking dense.
The reason I started lifting was because of my pear-shaped body.
It says right there he started out disproportionate. Of course adding muscle to that is going to make it worse. You'd have to idiotic to think the blame specifically lies with Starting Strength.
I'm not blaming SS at all. As you said, the guy clearly had large legs to begin with. I just find it weird that you were suggesting diet as a solution to the problem, given that he's not really fat at all... just extra-muscular in the legs.

Yes he is.

I disagree; but regardless, we can probably agree that SS is not to blame for the guy's proportions. And I hope we can also agree that diet alone would not fix the guy's proportions.

If someone said to you, "I've never worked out before and I have a disproportionate, pear-shaped body, what should I do?"
What is your answer?
[–]hans_grossePowerlifting 2 ポイント3 ポイント4 ポイント 8 時間 前
If I saw that the person was overweight, I would suggest a calorie deficit + weight training. But how is that relevant here? It doesn't look this guy was fat to begin with - he just has wide hips and naturally muscular legs. In his case, I probably would have suggested a lifting program with more upper body work.

WEIRD

Holy fucking shit, is this how you always argue? By insulting people and taking them out of context?
I said: If I saw that the person was overweight, then I would suggest a calorie deficit.
In the linked thread, it seems to me like being too fat was never the problem for the OP. His problem was having legs that were much more muscular than his upper body. So in that case, a fat loss diet would not be my first suggestion.
