This is Thin Privilege

[tw: abuse, weight loss talk,dieting]

I’ve never been slight or small or thin, and I’m finally okay with that;it’s just not how my body is constructed. Having said that,I’ve gained about sixty pounds on my year off, pounds I would like to lose just because it’s become bothersome, which would put me around 200 lbs.Which I would be happy with. My father, who is incapable of looking past issues such as weight, and is hellbent on mentioning how “bad” it’s gotten for me to look the way i do, listened to my plans for dieting, and kept interjecting HIS views-that I would probably be much happier at around 170,160.(note: he has a very small but stocky frame-5’8” at 180 lbs which he still complains about.) After much badgering,he admitted that he “didn’t want his daughter to weigh more than he did” and continued to criticize my body and “the way I just didn’t take care of my appearance,” as well as suggesting ways to eat as little as possible.

Thin privilege is not having your father encourage you to starve so he can see you as his “little girl” again.
