Note: Although I’m fat, I don’t know if this is really my space to talk because I’m a guy and less negative focus is given to my body. Thanks for making this space for people to share experience and keep up the good work, pal!
I work as a police detective in a rather large-sized city. My job is mainly to assist the prosecuting attorneys with random things. Although I’ve helped solve lots of cases and work in field investigations, I still get threatened with pay cuts. Why? Occasionally I get a little confused, like once when I was introduced to a new judge I stated my name and occupation backwards. I’ve never made any big mistakes; I’m only human, after all. My thinner colleagues are the same way, they make a mistake here and there too, yet they’re never threatened with pay cuts.
I can’t deal with a pay cut with my already low salary. I live in a cheap apartment building and a lot of my meals are made up of instant noodles and “weenies.” And I only have one coat that’s worn and patched since it’s difficult to find inexpensive coats in my size.
Thin privilege is not facing constant pay cuts by your boss.
Thin privilege is getting a better wage for the hard work you do.
Thin privilege is being able to buy new clothes easily because you can get them cheap.
