I've always been of the opinion that being called gay or being mistaken for gay was a compliment. Think about it, what are the stereotypes of homosexual men? They dress nice, they're fit, girls find them attractive, they hang out with girls all the time, they go out and dance, the list goes on. Next time someone calls you gay, just say thanks.

edit: I get it. Gays guys have sex with other men. 2spooky

You forgot one thing, you like to bang dudes.

And?

And some people dont like to bang dudes.

Still not an insult.

"Haha, get a load of this guy. He doesn't like Coke!"

ಠ_ಠ

[–]PLEASE_TAG_ME 29 ポイント30 ポイント

Heroin is longer lasting.

And gets you HIV! Oh, wait... OP was about gays, that was insensitive.

[–]PLEASE_TAG_ME 0 ポイント1 ポイント

Not really similar at all. More like

"Haha, this guy works at McDonalds!"

"No I don't, I work at Burger King."

"Nah you work at McDonalds, McBitch!"

It doesn't really matter what they are claiming about you when they know it is false. Especially when they are representing it as a negative. It is going to bother you. Now if it was something as personal as your sexuality you can probably imagine why it would insult people. Pretty simple concept, really.

But what I'm saying is that being gay isn't an insult. It's only used as a form of derision from people who are bigoted.

And it only works around and in people who are bigoted. Problem being there are so many bigoted.

It is an insult when it is intended as an insult. Especially if they keep doing it. It would get annoying. Trying to high-road everyone and pretend like you don't know that is true is pretty disingenuous.

I'd say working at McDonald's is marginally better than working at Burger King. At least Mickey D's is the largest and most famous fast food chain. Burger King is just... Burger King.

Isn't it more like telling someone they were born in Boston while they are from L.A.?

It's the same as how men don't like to be called women and women don't like to be called men. If you're called something other than your actual sexual identity, it might limit your dating pool.

"Haha get a load of this guy. He doesn't like Coke! Have a Pepsi." "Fuck you man, I like Coke." "What's wrong with liking Pepsi? Take it as a compliment."

[–]Twilight_Scko 2 ポイント3 ポイント

Because fuck Pepsi.

[–]cle_de_brassiere 1 ポイント2 ポイント

Yes it is. If someone goes around saying you go to community college whilst you actually attend Harvard, you'd be somewhat miffed.

Likewise, if a straight male is rumored to be banging dudes, he'd be similarly offended at the misrepresentation.

It isn't the choice that matters. It's whether the others around you respect it.

choice

aaaand there goes your argument.

More like, if someone goes around saying you went to Stanford, whilst you actually attend Harvard, you'd be somewhat miffed. You would also be acting somewhat silly, as the difference is rather arbitrary and basically boils down to preference.

Likewise, if a straight male is rumored to be banging dudes, he'd be similarly offended at the misrepresentation. He'd again, be acting somewhat silly, as the difference is rather arbitrary and basically boils down to preference.

So being gay is like going to community college and being straight is like going to Harvard? You might be a tad homophobic, bro.

[–]cle_de_brassiere -1 ポイント0 ポイント

No. My point is that if you ARE straight, you don't want people to perceive you as gay. And vice-versa.

It's not that one is better than the other IN GENERAL. It's that one is better than the other in the case of a gay or straight INDIVIDUAL.

If I were gay, I certainly wouldn't want everyone to think I'm straight...

If I were gay, I certainly wouldn't want everyone to think I'm straight.

There are differences though, culturally speaking.

As a gay guy myself, I constantly experience people assuming I'm straight. Just today I was in the lunch room at my workplace and was chatting up a new employee in a nearby department. She asked me if I had a wife. I said "No...". Her next question was "Girlfriend?" That kind of thing happens constantly.

Now, when a straight guy gets called gay, it tends to be interpreted as a statement against his gender identity. To be mistaken as gay in a society that tends to go out of its way to presume heterosexuality, is to be seen as less manly. That's how it tends to unfold, and I think that's where the added intensity comes from.

[–]Witless_Wonder -1 ポイント0 ポイント

I think you missed his point.

[–]A_Stoned_Smurf -1 ポイント0 ポイント

Don't twist his words, it was an example of someone misrepresenting something about you in a negative light.

Both were legitimate insults in GA when I was growing up.

Now I only make fun of people who don't like coke.

Anything can be an insult, it's all depends on perception and individuals.

That's an insult!

I don't like baseball. That doesn't mean I think you're a bad person or an idiot for liking it.

Why have you not accepted Mike Trout as your lord and savior?

Yes, but people don't insult you by calling you gay when they hold this opinion.

You missed the point.

If you do in fact like to have sex with men, saying "you like to bang dudes" is like telling someone who is drinking a coke "you like to drink coke." By doing that, you're just stating the obvious. Grass is green and the sky is blue. Any other observations?

Yea, I get that you're trying to insult someone by doing that, but it just doesn't make sense. There are negative stereotypes associated with gays, and that's what someone is trying to project when they say faggot or just like calling a black person a nigger.

Well that would depend on the perception the individual has of baseball. As it happens, a lot of straight guys have a negative view of fucking other guys in the ass. Such is life.

Seems a pretty manly thing to me. I mean, anyone can bang a girl. It's rather gay. But to bang a dude you need balls.

But to bang a dude you need balls.

No, women do that all the time. Now taking a dick, that takes a real asshole.

/thread

Heh, gays aren't tough? They fuck men! That's hardly gay.

[–]The_sad_zebra 2 ポイント3 ポイント

Technically, unless you're a woman, that's very gay. Not that that's bad.

Yes, yes. I've seen the stand up too, yes it's hilarious and yes the guy makes a solid point. Gay guys probably the most manly motherfuckers (fatherfuckers? fuck, thats even manlier) on earth.

i've never met a guy that doesn't like 3 day old regrowth ballsack whiskers tearing up his chin while sucking a dick.

regrowth

man fuck people who shave their ballsacks!

matter of fact, it should be an insult too...

"you fucking imberb ballsacker" or something.

i've done it maybe 2 times ever when about to go out with a super hot chick. the 3rd time was when my girlfriend at the time said she wasn't licking them until i shaved em'. not a difficult decision to make.

totally legitimate call if there ever was one!

That's gay
