This is Thin Privilege

Thin privilege is never being shamed for having to use disability parking.

I have had knee problems for my entire adult life, and as a result I need to use disability parking because I cannot walk very far without my knee pain flaring up to the point where I can’t move. But even though my disability sticker is CLEARLY VISIBLE on my car, people still throw nasty fatphobic comments at me.

The worst thing that has happened to me is when an older woman drove straight into my legs with her wheelchair, and hissed at me that “fat f*cks don’t deserve to use our parking spaces.” I was so shocked and hurt (my knees were aching for days afterwards) that I couldn’t even think of something to say to her. I just held myself against my car until she went away.
