Twitter is the solution to mass murders. It seems.
More #realtalk - it seems Hitler-senpai is not very good at being a parody account but I swear I’ll get back to that soon.
I have spent the majority of today arguing with people who are mad that I dare suggest that we look at the UCSB shootings as a catalyst for discussions on getting people the support they need such that they don’t go and stab/shoot a bunch of people. (This is on Facebook, not Tumblr - you guys are sexy)
Fuck me, right?
Where do these people get off? I’m here saying “these are probably things that we could improve to lower the chances of this happening again” (not to mention the benefits to so many groups that struggle from a lack of resources, or poor resource availability like the homeless) - and these people are saying “NO TWITTER ACTIVISM IS THE BEST WAY TO GO ABOUT IT”.
Amazingly, we’ve had twitter campaigns about women’s rights before - and this shit still happened.
From what I know, no person intent on taking their lives and the lives of others in a hatred fueled attack has been talked down by a freaking hashtag.
Before I start, let’s get this straight. I am fine with people sharing stories over twitter, and if people feel that’s important - keep doing it. It doesn’t affect me, I don’t have to read it - go for your life.
But trying to shut down real conversation about the improvement of social services is moronic. How is my brain even supposed to process this? “Well a guy who needed help killed a heap of people but rather than improve our help services I think we should tweet about it”
The Twitter Campaign
Okay, so what’s the goal of the twitter campaign? Take a tragedy, and “raise awareness” such that sympathetic men read about the horrible experiences women go through (which right now, I’ll say - some are horrific.), and…. then what? Promote action? I guess.
This is typical vague-ass no-commitment no-plan 3rd-wave-feminist activism. Nothing comes out of it by definition apart from some people talking about problems, other people reading them and feeling good about being “part of the solution”, and then a big circlejerk at the end. They’re likely not even reaching out to people who may be misogynists - as the people paying the most attention are likely already the ones who adhere to some form of feminist/egalitarian philosophy.
If #YesAllWomen achieves anything bar some big misguided (not that the problems aren’t real, but that the actions promoted will be poorly supported by facts) announcement from some Uni or even a political group in the next month you can just color me surprised.
On the other hand,
If we were to actually have groups and Unis improving social services think of all the fucking good for both men and women.
Why not both?
As said, I don’t have to participate in the twitter whatever let’s do both right? WRONG, apparently. If we discuss mental health and bullying apparently it shifts the focus away from the victims (women) (let’s just remember here that only 2 of the 7 dead are women).
Now - I don’t want to be a bitch, but… what’s more important? A bunch of women play the “woe is me” card online - or we improve services and try to prevent these deaths in the future?
Again, with all respect, some of the twitter stories are painful - but I would put anyone’s life before “an opportunity to share” them any day of the week.
And do you notice what is actually being said here?
These twitter activists would rather take the chance to see more people die, than allow their time to shine to be divided between multiple courses of action.
Yes, this is fucking disgusting.
It shows just how depraved these people are. They merely use these young men, and women’s deaths as tools to blast people with their ideology.
And people wonder why I refuse to call myself a feminist.
