people are already talking about how ‘deranged’ elliot rodger was.  people are talking about how he was ‘declaring war on the comfortable Californian world he had grown up in’.  in a very short time, what happened is going to be erased.

a guy felt that he was so entitled to women’s bodies that he set out to kill women.  this is nothing new or unique.  this is not ‘deranged’ behavior (attribution as such is disablist garbage), this is normative, typical behavior.  this is exactly what the world he grew up in expects.  this is a consistent pattern that has appeared again and again, all over the world.  this is part of how patriarchy enacts the constant state of fear women are forced to live in.  we can talk about the ‘men’s rights movement’ and the role it played in this specific incident, but that’s only been around for a short time and this type of violence has been occurring for millennia.  elliot rodger acted as a man.  this is what men do; this is what manhood is.
