Many cancer patients can be overwhelmed with the physical and emotional difficulties of their disease, and the loss of their hair from chemotherapy treatment certainly doesn’t help. Henna Heals, a rich community of nearly 150 henna tattoo artists worldwide established by a team of 5 women in Canada, helps women with cancer feel confident and beautiful again by drawing elegant henna crowns on their bare heads:

The intricate patterns that the artists create with all-natural henna paste are a unique and empowering substitute to the hats and wigs that many women use to cover their heads after losing their hair to chemotherapy. “For cancer patients, the henna crowns really are a healing experience,” claims Frances Darwin, the founder of Henna Heals. “This is all about them reclaiming a part of themselves that would normally be perceived as ill or damaged or not nice to look at and making it more feminine and beautiful.”

The traditional South-Asian temporary tattoos, which are made with 100% natural home-made henna paste, last for around two weeks and have no harmful side-effects. Henna Heals also offers henna services for special events and does belly painting for mother-to-be, but they always donate 10% of their proceeds to compensate the cost of the henna crowns they make for cancer patients.

im not gonna be the person to say it

I dont wanna be that person BUT….

Im gonna let someone else say it

it’s inappropriate to have a company (which was started by a white woman) profiting off mehndi which is practiced by numerous south asian cultures. if you look at photoshoots done by the company, they depict white women wearing henna on their heads AND bindis on their foreheads which is a completely unnecessary addition and only proves how this company is deliberately using south asian elements for profit, probably because of the whole ~exotic foreign beauty~ feel. cancer patients deserve to feel confident and beautiful but not at the expense of exploiting south asian cultures.

and of course a white girl with dreads doin that shit smh

SJWs have no shame.  Here is one whining about cancer patients “culturally appropriating” when she probably doesn’t have one drop of Indian or hindu blood in her stupid body, but she still feels entitled to speak on behalf of everyone in a continent so huge it’s called a subcontinent.

India doesn’t need your American Teenager’s Burden, you fucking ghoul.

Bruh,

the person who posted about it’s name is a hindi word

she says she’s indian (gujarati to be exact)

and even has pictures

like… it took me 5 seconds to check.

you talk shit with literally no backup. shut the fuck up and keep reblogging tardis cake pictures, you fucksheet.

Yeah nah, I’m gonna say it. White girls have been feeling beautiful at my race’s expense for all my life. You demean our dark skin to make yours more valuable, you exploit saris and bindis when if I wear them I’m considered a lame immigrant who doesn’t assimilate. Sorry you have cancer, we get cancer too, doesn’t change anything.

"sorry you have cancer"

woah woah woah sweetheart, don’t shed all those crocodile tears at once, people might you think you give a shit about someone over then yourself!

Shut the fuck up lol idiot, I have several family members with cancer, doesn’t change anything, my culture isn’t yours to exploit for white girl feelings deal with it

Excuse you.

Henna/Mehndi is also part of my culture, and I for one find it absolutely disgusting that you think shit like this is in any way going to be exploited in any bad way.

Mehndi/Henna has always been a decretive art for the body that women use as to feel good about themselves. I feel prettier when I have henna on, my cousins, my friends, and everyone who has the experience of seeing those patterns printed against their skin knows how it just gives you a boost of self-confidence and beauty. You, as a person, cannot disallow a woman from seeking some confidence through seeing the beauty of such an element from a culture.

Last I checked, you and those few others are not the sole spokespeople of the Indian/South Asian region. Nor are you the spokespeople of the millions of women who honestly don’t give two shits about “white women exploiting your culture”.

You do not have ownership over who can see the beauty and the significance of the henna/mehndi. You are only a handful in an ocean of those who honestly don’t give a damn, and if those who want to experience your culture and see the beauty in it bother you, then please get that stick out of your arse. It’s about time people take more recognition over what henna is and how much craftsmanship is put into those patterns, and how intricate and a signifier of absolute beauty it can mean to many many many women.
