I suppose if you ignore that the US is the 5th most charitable country in the world(based on GDP but the dollar amount we give is still the highest) his point might make sense. Granted you would also have to have very little understanding of what its like outside the US.

It was ranked 5th on a 2012 report. The latest report has the US as #1 https://www.cafonline.org/PDF/WorldGivingIndex2013_1374AWEB.pdf

Would you say it's okay to let rich people off the hook for committing crimes and arresting people for protesting then? As long as they take all the money we give them and they give it to other people for charity, of course. If there is a country out there mutilating girls' genitals then at least we're doing fine; as long as we don't get to that point, we're golden.

Needs a link to supporting evidence.

fifth most-generous country

As percent of GDP, not total amount of aid.

Now, remove all the weapons "aid" from that equation and you drop even further I would be willing to bet.

Ew, yeah. I totally forgot about how much weapons can help people.

This isn't government aid. This is from the people of the US.

Absolute terms* You're not even in the top 15 going by GNI

So? The GNI is ridiculously higher than any other country. It is not even remotely relevant.

Thats like saying if I donate 5% of my income Bill gates should also donate at least 5% of his income. The difference in actual dollar amount is so large it doesn't make any sense that he should donate in the same %

So because it happens elsewhere too it's okay that it happens in the IS. OK, got it

Where have I ever said that it is ok or are you just assuming I think its ok because I am pointing out a reality?
