Ashley.
Okay, no name calling, real talk. Just because you’re allowed the right to free speech DOESN’T mean you shouldn’t face the consequences. You draw a picture of ponies saying rape jokes (that aren’t even that funny, mind you, I have a tolerance for these things) and you act like people have no right to be upset? How many rape victims do you think got flashbacks from them? How many said rape victims are suicidal? How many of the shows target audience is going to stumble onto those pictures? What are their parents going to say? How many times does Lauren Faust look at pictures like these and wonder if her drive to create a show that didn’t mistreat girls fail? I don’t know if you really believe all that stuff about feminists being “fascists”, but the show WAS built on feminist ideals, so things like this, no doubt, hurt her deeply.
I’ve seen this before. Someone pisses off a bunch of people who get mad, sent admittedly bullshit death threats, and try to report them. Said person often gets pissed and says everybody is trying to oppress their free speech. Well, you made multiple pictures of ponies from a children’s show (with a wide demographic, but still a children’s show) extolling the virtues of rape. Honestly, what did you expect? Pats on the back from fellow bronies while the piss poor social justice babies fall on their knees in defeat? If that’s what you wanted, sorry. Look, I’m not saying dark humor can never be funny. Hell, I’m not saying rape jokes can never be funny. They just need to be done in a good context. And your pictures simply weren’t funny. When my anger subsided, I realized they were just lame. Like that Rick Ross song with the line about date rape; he didn’t say it as shock humor, he said it as matter-of-fact, like it was no big deal. That’s why people got pissed off at him. Pissed off at you.
On that note, I saw that Twilight picture you drew where she says, or rather you make her say, people should “take accountability for their life decisions”. What are you doing? Watching people get mad at an off-color joke and instead of owning up, calling them all morons? Consequences arrive. People have told worse jokes than that and, realizing how insensitive they were, still apologized. Game Grumps made a joke about a hypnotized child giving a handjob to her psychiatrist, and they went out of their way to apologize in the most sincere way possible. When you continue to defend yourself on the Internet for saying something bigoted or, say, related to rape, by saying their censoring you, you show that you refuse to believe that anything is your fault. You accuse people of playing the victim, when in reality, you have the largest victim complex out there. It’s perfectly fine when you’ve been living on the Internet and lose touch of reality, that you can see yourself as invincible and can say whatever you want. Could you say this in the real world? Saying this here, on the Internet, where thousands can see, is like walking up to an auditorium and yell at the top of our lungs. The only difference is that we can’t be seen, so we get a sense of power.
And that’s exactly why I quit the brony fandom. I still watch the show. Hell, I thought this season’s finale was kickass. I simply no longer consider myself a brony. And I’m not gonna say every brony is horrible; far from it. But I just couldn’t handle all the people who choose to defile the show to oblivion; all those who ignore its messages and all those who choose to make rule 34 of the OCs of cancer-stricken patients and act aghast when people are freaked out by this. It’s just the Internet, man!
I’m not sure how qualified I am to point this out, being a cis male, but you’re female. Females who claim to be anti-feminist always puzzled me. Why are you allying yourself with a boy’s club that doesn’t respect you unless you play into their waifu ideals? Do you want to feel like “one of the guys”? Are you so afraid of being considered girly that you will go out of your way to destroy anything that comes with the term, including shows about multicolored ponies? Isn’t that definition patriarchy? Of course, you’ll probably consider all this as “social justice bullshit” (another way to act like nothing is your fault).
Some guy on your deviantART profile congratulated you on “pissing off so many SJWs” and calling you a “hero”. I need to ask: does this give you validation? Because he’s a minority. He, and others, are not the brony fandom. No one in the fandom’s really calling you out (shame on them), but I have noticed people reblogging you and saying “we’re not all like that!” distancing themselves from you. You’re a very good artist, no denying. But When word spreads, are people going to keep wanting your art? Are people going to pay commissions? Or are you going to see a decrease due to this? Oh, people like dragonartistJRR will stay. But they’re not the entire brony fandom. They call it a vocal minority for a reason.
What is you were raped right now?
What if someone close to you were raped right now? Would you console them?
I know I’m rambling. I’m not good at forming full points. But different perspectives need to be considered.
You have to own up to your shit. I’ve been guilty of shitty things online and I end up hating myself. You can’t just slink to the corners of the Web, under the buzzwords of free speech and censorship and accuse everyone of being against you when you do something wrong. Your actions may be legal in Tumblr’s rules, but you’re basically saying “I only care about myself”, “I accept consequences for nothing,” and “I refuse to show any human decency.”
But to you, to everyone who’s ruined the brony fandom for me, to tenaflyviper, to everyone who tries to appropriate the show to their narcissistic selves, to everyone who sincerely believes there is nothing feminist about the show and shit on people for attaching political viewpoints on it when their entire argument is literally based around them doing exactly that, and to the cancer patient rule 34 guys, common human decency is probably just more “social justice bullshit”, isn’t it.
Sigh.
Are you a terrible person? Hell, I don’t know. I’ve seen your Dinky blog. It’s a nice little story. Anyone who does that must still have a soul locked up somewhere.
The right thing to do would be to delete the pictures with the rape jokes and sincerely apologize. But I can’t say with faith that you’ll do this. Most likely you’ll ignore this or privately/publicly curse me out with the same stuff you’ve been saying. I’d like for you to post this on your blog. Show people that at least there was an attempt. If not, then there really is no helping you and I’ve wasted 2 hours of my life.
-Nana.
*Yaawwwn* I’m starting to get sick of this same thing, over and over again. Tell ya what, since you’ve pretty much parroted everyone crying at me, and so calmly, I’ll give you the privilege of having this steaming pile of horseshit deconstructed.
“You draw a picture of ponies saying rape jokes… you act like people have no right to be upset?”
How so? Does making fun of people who overreact to bad jokes somehow denote that I don’t think others have a right to be upset? They can be upset by whatever they want, and I can call them thin-skinned idiots for being hyper-reactive.
“How many rape victims do you think got flashbacks from them? How many said rape victims are suicidal?”
I’m not even convinced you’re concerned for them. The 1500 notes that pic got came from people who aren’t actually concerned about them. If they truly cared they’d have ignored me and prevented as many people as possible from ever seeing it, not reblogging it 300 times to show the world what a bitch I’m being. They couldn’t even report me discreetly. They’re out for bloody vengeance because I would dare to make them uncomfortable. They’re hypocrites. Every last one of them.
Do you really think that protecting people who might be so sensitive to the idea of rape is even possible? There is mention of rape everywhere; about how bad it is (the news), or how they’re gonna catch the bad guy (Law & Order: SVU. Love that show btw). Let’s we lobby against Vietnam jokes, too. That war is known to have caused PTSD.
“How many of the shows target audience is going to stumble onto those pictures? What are their parents going to say?”
Oh no! Think of the children! We MUST protect the children because they’re SO weak and SENSITIVE! Children are a lot more resilient than you think. Protecting them from reality is futile, they’re gonna learn eventually. I can think of a few solutions. “Rape is a bad word.” That would be a bullshit answer, but it can at least appease the child and prevent the parent from a horrific awkward moment.
They know what death is, why would the idea of rape be so mind shattering to them? Children in foraging communities typically understand what sex is by the age of three or four. When they understand what rape is, it’s just gonna be another thing on the list of “wrong things that people do.”
Also if the show’s target audience happens to see this, it’s not my fault. Tumblr isn’t for 3-12 year old kids. Kids should be held accountable for being in spaces where they’re not welcome, because they’re not welcome for a reason.
“No individual under the age of thirteen (13) may use the Services, provide any personal information to Tumblr, or otherwise submit personal information through the Services (including, for example, a name, address, telephone number, or email address). You may only use the Services if you can form a binding contract with Tumblr and are not legally prohibited from using the Services.” -Tumblr terms of service.
“How many times does Lauren Faust look at pictures like these and wonder if her drive to create a show that didn’t mistreat girls fail? I don’t know if you really believe all that stuff about feminists being “fascists”, but the show WAS built on feminist ideals, so things like this, no doubt, hurt her deeply."
LF probably doesn’t give a shit about what some random tumblr user does. She has more important things to do than to worry, “somebody who likes my show *makes offensive jokes* oh shit!”
Also, thanks Tenafly. Point is, you don’t know what LF wants. I don’t know what she wants. Stop using her in arguments like she’s a valid point to bring up. You could make the exact same argument for rule 34, ideologies she doesn’t agree with, nazi pony art, murder art, etc.,etc.. It is a useless argument.
“I’ve seen this before. Someone pisses off a bunch of people who get mad, sent admittedly bullshit death threats, and try to report them. Said person often gets pissed and says everybody is trying to oppress their free speech…. Honestly, what did you expect? Pats on the back from fellow bronies while the piss poor social justice babies fall on their knees in defeat? If that’s what you wanted, sorry. ”
I got no death threats (not even troll death threats). I’ve reported no one. I expected to upset a few people, have a good laugh, and everybody to move on with their life. Instead what I got was far more funny. The best part about this is that even after I directly tell you babies what I’m doing, you’ll still continue to cry.
(1) “You draw a picture of ponies saying rape jokes….” (2) ”Well, you made multiple pictures of ponies from a children’s show… extolling the virtues of rape." (3) "Like that Rick Ross song with the line about date rape; he didn’t say it as shock humor, he said it as matter-of-fact, like it was no big deal. That’s why people got pissed off at him. Pissed off at you.”
Fuck off you dishonest asshole. You said you knew that they were jokes. You know I wasn’t actually praising rape.
(1) “You draw a picture of ponies saying rape jokes (that aren’t even that funny, mind you, I have a tolerance for these things)…. How many rape victims do you think got flashbacks from them? How many said rape victims are suicidal?" (2) "I’m not saying rape jokes can never be funny. They just need to be done in a good context. And your pictures simply weren’t funny.”
And what the fuck is this hypocritical bullshit? Rape jokes are OK if you, with your personal, subjective sense of humour find them funny? They’re either OK or not. Pick.
“When my anger subsided, I realized they were just lame.”
You’ve cracked the code. The real humour was never meant to be the actual jokes themselves. The humour comes from hypersensitive nitwits who piss their pants crying: “oh no this one person I should give no fucks about condones rape!" Even when I don’t.
“On that note, I saw that Twilight picture you drew where she says, or rather you make her say, people should “take accountability for their life decisions”. What are you doing? Watching people get mad at an off-color joke and instead of owning up, calling them all morons?”
I called them morons for taking such transparent, low quality bait.
Of courseI’m accountable for drawing the pic, but why am I accountable for dumbass losers who take things too seriously? It’s not my fault they’re so uptight and puritanical.
“People have told worse jokes than that and, realizing how insensitive they were, still apologized. Game Grumps made a joke about a hypnotized child giving a handjob to her psychiatrist, and they went out of their way to apologize in the most sincere way possible.”
I actually cracked up at that joke. From you, not Game Grumps. I assume they were talking about hypnosis, or how they or other people think therapy doesn’t work or some other context I’m not aware of.
To be fair, I wouldn’t make fun of somebody for actually being raped. They can apologize all they want, I don’t care. I don’t get millions of views. I also don’t get ad revenue.
“When you continue to defend yourself on the Internet for saying something bigoted or, say, related to rape, by saying their censoring you, you show that you refuse to believe that anything is your fault. You accuse people of playing the victim, when in reality, you have the largest victim complex out there.”
Go do your homework. I’ve always specifically stated “trying to censor me.” They’ve certainly tried to by reporting me. They haven’t though, and I doubt they actually can.
Where did accuse anyone of playing the victim, anyways? Stop putting words in my mouth. That Twilight pic? The message I had in mind was more like this:
“It’s perfectly fine when you’ve been living on the Internet and lose touch of reality, that you can see yourself as invincible and can say whatever you want. Could you say this in the real world? Saying this here, on the Internet, where thousands can see, is like walking up to an auditorium and yell at the top of our lungs. The only difference is that we can’t be seen, so we get a sense of power.”
Isn’t the point of the internet to have that anonymity? We need places to say things, consequence free. We need places to introduce nuance so we can have these discussions when and where we want without the risk of endangering our jobs or social standings. Even if that results in trolls and drama. All I see when you say this is “Pfft, using the internet for its greatest value? Try doing that IRL tough guy!”
“And that’s exactly why I quit the brony fandom. I still watch the show. Hell, I thought this season’s finale was kickass. I simply no longer consider myself a brony.”
You are a brony by definition. You are male, and you like the show. To not consider yourself not a brony is equivalant to me saying “I don’t believe in Gods or any religions, but I’m not an atheist.”
“But I just couldn’t handle all the people who choose to defile the show to oblivion; all those who ignore its messages and all those who choose to make rule 34 of the OCs of cancer-stricken patients and act aghast when people are freaked out by this.”
It’s not like the show is sacred or something. It is what it is: just a show. If you’re too puritanical and sensitive, fine. It’s your problem and you solved it by disassociating yourselves with other bronies.
"Defile" the show. Pfft.
“It’s just the Internet, man!”
Exactly! Now you’re getting it!
“I’m not sure how qualified I am to point this out, being a cis male, but you’re female. Females who claim to be anti-feminist always puzzled me. Why are you allying yourself with a boy’s club that doesn’t respect you unless you play into their waifu ideals?”
Wow this is so retarded. By definition, because I believe in equal gender rights, I am a feminist. You can dispute that if you want but I don’t give a shit. This doesn’t mean I have to accept everything told to me by those hypersensitive mega-cunts.
I mean where do you even get this shit? What do my genitals have to do with this? When was the last time I mentioned feminism, a year ago? Did you seriously scan my blog for something I said a year ago that might not even be valid anymore? Of course you didn’t: you didn’t even look at the first page.
The “brony community" btw, isn’t a boy’s club. It’s more of a sausage fest. Girls are welcome, but don’t whine and try to change the environment because "oh, this is offensive and gross and you should change because I feel uncomfortable in this environment!" Fuck off if you don’t like it. I like the environment. If I tried to enforce or shame others into change like an entitled teenage girl I wouldn’t deserve their respect.
“Do you want to feel like “one of the guys”? Are you so afraid of being considered girly that you will go out of your way to destroy anything that comes with the term, including shows about multicolored ponies?”
Internet psychologists to the rescue!
Btw I love girly things.
“Isn’t that definition patriarchy?”
You’re too stupid to use google.
“No one in the fandom’s really calling you out (shame on them), but I have noticed people reblogging you and saying “we’re not all like that!” distancing themselves from you.”
You literally just contradicted yourself in the same sentence.
“But When word spreads, are people going to keep wanting your art? Are people going to pay commissions? Or are you going to see a decrease due to this?”
I don’t even do commissions. Another instance of you just making absolutely unfounded assumptions about me. Each sentence makes me take you less and less seriously because of it. Are you a troll? I’m beginning to think I’m falling for bait.
“What is [sic] you were raped right now?
What if someone close to you were raped right now? Would you console them?
I know I’m rambling. I’m not good at forming full points. But different perspectives need to be considered.”
Because I can’t be a victim of sexual assault and find rape jokes to be funny, or at least just ignore them when they’re not. Humans use humour to help themselves heal or cope with pain. To deny that is to deny a very important function of humour.
What if I made this argument: “Sexual abuse victims don’t want to be constantly treated like they’re victims. We don’t need to act like it’s the most horrific thing they can experience, be constantly told what a poor, unfortunate victim they are. They want the ability to move on and let the world go on, and don’t want their experience to hinder anybody else’s ability to enjoy their life.”
Don’t speak for rape victims. You can’t. Not even rape victims can speak for all rape victims.
"But to you, to everyone who’s ruined the brony fandom for me, to tenaflyviper…."
You: “Boohoo I don’t know how to blacklist and avoid porn!”
"Most likely you’ll ignore this or privately/publicly curse me out with the same stuff you’ve been saying. I’d like for you to post this on your blog. Show people that at least there was an attempt. If not, then there really is no helping you and I’ve wasted 2 hours of my life."
You want to change me? How about an actual, cogent argument and not just a shitty emotional appeal?
You really have wasted 2 hours of your life.
