Socrates died for this shit.

First the library of Alexandria now this.

Thanks Obama

Did Hernandez kill him? Is that why we can't read about it?

[–]Dolphinshebleb 0

I always laugh at these angry mob posts because they always end up not deleted and upvoted to #1, instead of the story

Obviously a former NFL player still getting paid by the NFL getting arrested for an unsolved double-murder isn't relevant to the NFL.

No idea, one was even from ESPN.

I've had two taken down, one by ABC News and the other from Boston.com

If this doesn't fit in /r/nfl, then what sub does it fit under?

/r/AdviceAnimals apparently.

Scumbag Aaron

Scumbag Aaron

  • Murders people

  • Allegedly

These captions are not guaranteed to be indicted.

goes in a Tight End, comes out a Wide Receiver. Am I right, guys?

The funny thing is my NFL mobile app that is controlled by the NFL just alerted me to the breaking news about Hernandez. So the NFL thinks it's NFL news but /r/NFL does not. Interesting.

Thank you. This is so true. The FACT is that people who are NFL fans love to read about shit like this.

I wouldn't say it's a fact, I'm not really interested in that sort of thing, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Not saying it necessarily needs to be removed, but all caps "fact" is a bit of an overstatement.

I didn't see the Hernandez post before it was removed? Got direct links? Or you can just give me a summary

There's been about 30 of them. Most are nothing but links to ESPN, ABC, etc articles about it

Not gonna lie. Mods are getting annoying with deleting good enough posts for the sub

Seriously. It's the offseason, the front page of this sub has

Who's your #2 team?
Who do you irrationally hate?
What's your favorite NFL picture?

but can't leave this?

Plus the fact they remove upvoted discussion posts with plenty of comments yet they don't touch downvoted posts

To be fair, just because a post is downvoted doesn't necessarily mean it's breaking the rules.

Where are all the "If your team was a restaurant, what would the main course be?" posts?!? C'mon guys I've been sitting on these Zach Mettenburger jokes for ages. Comedy gold!

[–]LionsHighest_Koality 0 ポイント1 ポイント

And now you've just given it away.

But they let us keep "Will Peyton win the MVP next year" that's posted 4 times a week!

Well? Will he?

Ugh. You didn't answer. I guess I'll go post the question to /r/NFL

I think before we can answer that we need to have an "Unpopular Opinions" thread filled with popular opinions

It would be funny, but you and I both know if we make a thread making fun of users it'll only be full of fedora jokes.

While you're there, make sure to ask every single user's opinion on every single thing Richard Sherman has ever said - we never know, new and fresh insight could be right around the corner!

It's a "This is why we can't have nice things" thing.

The community was so irresponsible with upvoting TMZ and bullshit with the breaking point being C Kap being portrayed as a sexual predator and a whole thread full of rape jokes, that the Mods were begged to start deleting bullshit.

A rumor from TMZ and announcement of a murder indictment are very different

Point being, people misbehaved with their toy and the rest of us asked for it to be taken away, now the mods are just doing what we asked them to do.

This is why I'd never be a mod of anything. They just can't fucking win

Joking prematurely was wrong of those people but originally it was reported as sexual assault so I think the best reaction was starting serious threads, not delaying breaking news posts.

Actually if you had even bothered to read the linked article it was pretty clear that it wasn't him.

She was asking for him and yelling at others to get out. People who are sexually abused rarely call out for their attacker. They just read the misleading headline and started fromt here

The bigger we get as a sub, the worse it has gotten. I hope we never become a default.

266,411 fans. Wow. I remember when they hit the Michigan Stadium capacity milestone.

It's pretty fucking idiotic for them to keep deleting these posts. This could have football implications, and it isn't like there is a hell of a lot else going in right now in the off-season

I don't know....A Bleacher Report post draft power rankings slideshow post would be refreshing.

[–]BearsSideshow_Slob 5 ポイント6 ポイント

Whoa, I don't know about that one. I think we need another "Who will be the biggest bust/steal of this draft" topic. It's been entire minutes since one of those has been posted.

As long as it's in slideshow form, I'm all for it.

People on this sub obviously care and want to talk about it so the mods need to stop with their deleting bullshit

I agree with this. If it is on the border of leave/delete for the mods, why not decide by what everyone seems to want? If nobody wanted to hear about it or talk about it, it would get downvoted. It's not a meme or random picture of a player, it's a news article. Posted to a forum about NFL news.

The mods used to say that they deleted Hernandez posts because they had no impact on the NFL, but this can actually have an impact for the Pats cap space if he is convicted, and being indicted is a big step in the right direction

    [–]PatriotsI_Enjoy_Taffy 31 ポイント32 ポイント

It's fucking stupid that they keep deleting it. This double homicide happened before Hernandez signed his shiny new big deal. Because of this, the Patriots can file a grievance with the NFLPA and free up the salary cap hit that Herandez's contract took up. So this has huge salaray cap implications for the Patriots. Apparently that's not NFL related. Fuck us, right mods?

    Mine was just taken down!?

    [–]BearsThe_Black_Unicorn 2 ポイント3 ポイント

    Yeah.. Even YOURS

Mine has been up for 2 solid minutes now. Fingers crossed.

    Edit: Fucking Mods!

This is fucking stupid. Can any mod actually state a reason as to why the threads keep getting deleted instead of just deleting them and hiding? There are way worse threads on the front page. Talk about ridiculous.

    [–]BearsThe_Black_Unicorn 1 ポイント2 ポイント

My guess - Aaron Hernandez is not an NFL player and never will be again.

but this could give the Patriots more cap space

Cool. What else is there to talk about other than that? I'm all for deleting these posts. It would just turn into a thread full of jokes and circle jerks. Mods are doing their best job keeping this place quality if you ask me.

Is this what North Korea feels like?

I'm confused how the Hernandez news isn't fit for the sub but the Greg Hardy news from yesterday is.

Greg Hardy is an NFL player.

That's a silly distinction. The only reason that Hernandez isn't a current NFL player is his involvement in the very case we're trying to discuss. Colt Lyerla isn't an NFL player. Discussing him is still appropriate.

EDIT: Why was the Tyler Sash drunken scooter tazing incident deemed fit for discussion? Should we delete the Jim Kelly cancer posts?

Neither is Keyshawn Johnson but this post from 3 weeks ago didn't get deleted: http://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/23lt7n/keyshawn_johnson_arrested_on_domestic_violence/

Is the new standard that once a player no longer is an active NFL player we no longer allow a post on them? For Hernandez it's still relevant too since he hasn't been found guilty yet.

Greg Hardy is still in the NFL.

Herenandez could still come back to the NFL. He has not been convicted yet, correct? And, his current situation still has ramifications for our team.

So the fuck what? Hernandez was an elite level NFL player this time last year. Like it or not, he will always be NFL-related. I don't care if he gets out of prison in 40 years and commits another couple of murders...it's still related

I don't care what you want. I'm just explaining the different between Hardy and Hernandez.

What I'm impressed by is how fast they're deleting them. Usually the "Le Kluwe donated 5000 fedoras to the atheists against cancer foundation" posts take 6-12 hours to get deleted.

At least they're being proactive about their rules now.

A reminder: whether you agree with the mods or not, do not mass downvote their posts. This buries their reasoning and doesn't further the discussion.

This is as relevant as Jim Kelley news

One day I hope to be as powerful as a reddit mod. Sooooo jealous of their power.

Which mods are actually deleting the post? Is it only /u/arichi? Why don't we get decent explanations who is deleting this stuff and why? That would allow us to figure out which mods are acting outside the community's accepted standards, and we can decide to remove them.

    It's on NFL.com, c'mon mods.

    DAE le fascist mods?

    Literally Hitner IMO.

    [–]BearsThe_Black_Unicorn 1 ポイント2 ポイント

Only one person can be /u/literally_hitner

I mean I can understand when they talk about tabloid things like TMZ articles, but myself and other fans have been submitting posts from reliable news sources AND this could have an impact on the Patriots cap space.

I think at least one thread should remain given to complete the saga. But I understand mods deleting every other thread. We only need one. Continually submitting the same story and then crying wolf isn't going to accomplish anything. Did you at try to get an explanation from the mods?

    There are literly Hitners

my fedora literally does not tip to these mods

    RIP CARL SAGAN

Mods, I think you're creating a lot of flack for yourselves for deleting a lot of posts that could be grey-area NFL news.

This is why we have the upvote/downvote system.

    What is this, /r/technology

    [–]Texansillegal_deagle 30 ポイント31 ポイント

Fuck that sub, I don't want to discuss it with them.

Like seriously? It was down in less than a minute. How is this not related to the sub? There are a ton of shitty posts on the front page now and when actual news happens, they don't know what to do.

Sooooo guy who was NFL player until a year ago when he was arrested for homicide is indicted for homicide and that's not NFL news, apparently. Also, none of us actually want to read or talk about it.

The guy has been out of the NFL a total season and will probably never play football again. I'm not sure I necessarily agree with them being removed but it's definitely not critical NFL news.

It is because it might have cap implications for the pats

That is a very good point, but would be a ways away. He just got indicted. They would need a conviction, wouldn't they?

That's the thing, we don't know. Some articles said that a charge from before his contract might be enough

Well wouldn't that be nice? I'm really anxious to see how this will pan out, then. I take it back, this could be very relevant if that's the case.

I hate when Mods delete shit. If it's a re-post that's fine. But how about you let the community decide what should be a thread and what shouldn't

Exactly this. Reddit moderation is getting silly.

But how about you let the community decide what should be a thread and what shouldn't

Because it doesn't work. Stop pretending it does..

That's what this entire website is based on..

Is Joe Flaco an elite QB? That post will never get deleted, ever.

Off-season post guidelines need to be relaxed. During the season, I am all for keeping it tidy. But currently, all posts here are pretty much bullshit. Pre-draft, it was the same pre-draft speculative bullshit and stupid question threads. Post-draft, it's even worse.

Something interesting happened regarding a player who, until very recently, was a NFL player. Let us talk about it with other football fans! There is not going to be a better place for the type of discussion people want than this sub.

Maybe because everyone and their mother posted it and they were trying to keep the duplicate posts down.

    [–]Dolphinsphelonious_monk305 0 ポイント1 ポイント

I don't agree with the deleting if the posts regarding this new Hernandez situation but let's be real for a second here guys.... That thread is going to mostly consist of a bunch of puns and jokes and will offer very little in the way of actual discussion. Still it'll be pretty fun during a slow time in the offseason so I hope the mods will make one mega thread for this eventually.

Can we just keep re-submitting the links until they let one go through?

I'm with the Mods on this one. News of charges alone is not related to the NFL in any way.

I don't understand why Mods have to delete posts. Let the voting system do the majority of the work. The posts people are interested in will rise up and the rest will fall back. Sure, a few posts my get through that are not top tier.

I have no problem with mods deleting that blatantly break the rules. That being said, I think things in the gray space, should be left alone. Let the community do what they will with them.

They're probably just waiting to do a megathread about this all rather than have 4000 submissions flood the sub.

But hey, torches and pitchforks are more fun.

So this guy was playing in the NFL after he had killed 2 people? No wonder noone on the Texans wanted to cover him.

Wrong sub for it obviously - needs to go in /r/patriotscapspace/.

This is pretty pathetic mods. It's the offseason, this is news.

I think they already called for a end to the Hernandez news. How do the charges impact their cap space?

What's the reasoning behind deciding that we're just done posting recent developments in an ongoing NFL-related story?

Especially when it might have cap implications

Well to be fair, we need room to have another post asking an inane hypothetical question about Michael Sam.

The contract could possibly be voided and the Pats would get the cap hit from cutting Hernandez removed.

Then I see the mods point. Its all speculation until Pats make a move.

Now the Pats can argue that he violated the language of his contract.

    http://www.patspulpit.com/2014/5/15/5720396/aaron-hernandez-indicted-in-2012-double-homicide

it could be argued since he killed the 2 people in Boston before signing the contract that it wasn't done in good faith and that would void it. if it is voided then the pats have a very solid argument to get an increase in salary cap to compensate for the money they had to pay out even though aaron was in jail

How do the charges impact their cap space?

These charges were from before his new contract, so it is possible that the Patriots could try to get out of the cap hit they are on the hook for.

There are plenty of things that actually matter to be upset about. Focus on those.

I agree with you but let's be real if the mods were allowing this Then you would all be complaining about how they're allowing "tmz shit".

They have power, and they can use it, so they do. It doesn't really have to make sense.

Welcome to the reason why I don't bother with /r/nfl anymore.

I'm not saying I hate the mods but if Hitler, Mao, Stalin and the mods were in a room and I had only 2 bullets, both will be fired at the mods.

I kinda get the Mod's intentions here. Maybe if he's convicted or if it actually affects his playing, but this isn't NFL TMZ.

    AN INDICTMENT IS NOT TMZ

    [–][deleted]

    [deleted]

Its not "collapsing" though. The mods have their rules and we are challenging the validity of those rules. Certain posts that dont seem "within the scope" of an NFL topic are allowed to stay, while breaking news that most would agree has NFL implications is deleted.
