Egalitarianism is the idea that everyone deserves equal rights and opportunities regardless of race, gender, class, sexual orientation, etc.
Feminism is the idea that everyone deserves equal rights and opportunities regardless of gender.
If you’re an egalitarian, you’re also a feminist. You can be a feminist and an egalitarian.
Egalitarianism is the umbrella term for all equal rights movements. There is still an anti-racism movement. There is still an lgbt rights movement. There is still a gender-equality movement.
Stop this “egalitarianism not feminism!” shit. The two are not interchangeable. Egalitarianism is not some new term to avoid calling yourself a feminist. If that’s the case for you, then keep it to yourself and stop pushing forward the idea that feminism is bad. If you do that, then what kind of “egalitarianism” do you really support?
And before people respond with “people can call themselves whatever they want!” because I know you will:
Yeah, you can call yourself an egalitarian while hating feminism, kind of like how people can call themselves an lgbt ally while supporting a straight pride parade.
