Google Glass' next target, Japan. (self.googleglass)

Well it's me again. After tearing down a bit of XE16 I can already say this was a huge under the hood update. I'll skip the formalities and gloating about being right about JB+ update.

Google Glass coming to Japan Next

Why Japan? I have no clue honestly. Could just be a random idea.

The Evidence

in the GlassVoice.apk file, which controls the voice actions for all of Glass there are string translations. Most of the translations include just the standard Google feedback strings (detectable by gf_ in front).

If you go to the Japanese folder though, there is a lot more. ..image.. Including translations from the Ok, Glass command to Call me a car.

Digging into the /asset fodler you get even more clue, with custom configurations for the Japanese language as well as the standard English ones.

I feel like as I dig in there will be a lot more revealed, but for now I will stick with just this.

I think you're on to something with this. I found a language selection screen in my teardown that includes some pretty telling code (heavily edited for readability):

SUPPORTED_LOCALES = java.util.Locale.US, java.util.Locale.UK, java.util.Locale.JAPANESE, PSEUDO_LOCALE_ACCENT
