One of my followers wanted to submit this anonymously. I think she raises some questions worth thinking about:
http://officialasshole.tumblr.com/post/73831016750/im-poc-and-white This made me think… If a white person could change their pigment w/shots & other features through surgery to *look* like a POC, would POC welcome them into their racial communities as one of them? IE if a white person got features to look black, would black people consider that person black? Keep in mind that the pigment and feature changes are reversible at any time the person chooses. My guess (as a black woman) is HELL NO. Being black is more than just appearance; IMO there are experiences that go with being and growing up as a POC that you must have lived. & what if that white person said they’d always “felt” black & proceeded to roll out stereotypes of what feeling black is like, such as how they love hip hop & chicken, can dance & have a criminal record? Not only would most people not accept them, they’d be offended as all fuck! But somehow when a man says he “feels” like a woman & rolls out shopping, makeup etc as examples we’re supposed to just accept him as a woman & keep it moving bc if you question it you’re evil & transphobic. -.^ How are the situations so different really?
