uh, i dunno about you guys, but methinks so far as self-defense against government tyranny goes, you may need a bigger gun than the one pictured.

this 'aint exactly the 1700's anymore. all the guns in the world can't stop the state from whipping your ass. ask the branch davidians.

The Taliban seems to have done rather well... as did the Iraqi insurgents. A cell phone and some improvised explosives are all you need.

An insurgency is not a conventional war. And let's not forget that there are a myriad of military bases that are spread throughout the United States that (A) Will likley have many, many, many defecting forces with their equipment, and (B) are located in sprawling urban centers and could easily be overwhelmed.

Lol, okay go try that and report back.

Have you ever been near a military base in the U.S, I would assume not? The biggest security presence is based at a base's numerous gates, typically with a smattering of civilian police contractors present. Additionally there are miles and miles of chain link fencing with some barbed wire around fort perimeters. At Fort Lewis (in Washington State) we were warned to watch out for meth huts and weed fields (which their accompanying armed growers) when doing ruck marches in the wooded areas.

News flash to Americans everywhere! Military bases are not well guarded, and 99% of the personnel on base are unarmed!

Base security varies. If you're by an old base that's pretty much solely for training reservists, then yeah security's not that tight.

However, if you're trying get into a base that has a Nuclear bomb or other heavy artillery, you're gonna have a bad time.

I literally agree with you so hard that I now have to rant.

I hear so much bullshit from so-called "patriots" about their willingness to spill American blood to protect our freedoms or whatever... But honestly, I don't see civil war proving to be a very popular political movement. There isn't a sharp enough polarization in society to produce a violent revolution, and Americans are reasonable enough to know that killing our neighbors is by far the worst option for solving our political woes. Sure, American democracy is pretty dysfunctional, but it still exists, and it can still be fixed, and anyone who even suggests that things are so bad that we have to start killing each other is literally retarded.

So whenever I hear a gun owner suggest (without joking) that "this'n here is fer them tyrants 'n sech" I just have to shake my head and ponder the circumstances that led to such astounding ignorance. No, the government isn't going to take your guns. No, shooting Americans when you think they're taking your guns is NOT going to draw the support of our troops. And no, your insurgency isn't going to last very long considering that the American military is going to be way more motivated to exterminate a terrorist cell that exists within the actual United States (compared with a bunch of durka-durkas way the hell over in the mountain wilderness of Durkastan).

Seriously, I'm a lefty, and I think that responsible gun ownership is great. It's fun, it's good for the economy, it's the best way to control animal populations as far as I can tell, and it brings people together in the spirit of friendly competition. What isn't great is people threatening violence against other Americans because they don't want to be forced to buy smaller magazines. If anything, it's that sort of attitude that is causing my lefty peers to grow more vocal in opposing unrestricted gun ownership.

So by all means, shoot the shit out of the guy that, unprovoked, tried to harm you or your family. But until then, people need to stfu with the armed rebellion bullshit.

The Taliban have little to lose; for them to live in a cave for months with nothing but their faith as a guide is a small price. Few westerners would be willing to do that.

Hi, I'm your friendly neighborhood redneck.

Someone else said it in this thread but a good example is the Taliban. They are very ill equipped and holding their own.
