Anonymous asked: Why do y'all have to get so worked up over some private emails? Last time I checked, sending words over the web didn't constitute a crime. Try minding your own business, it might lower your stress level.
We would rather be stressed about it than turn a blind eye. Now let’s talk about the privacy issue..
It’s a leak sent to student media by an anonymous source and we are very aware of the privacy concerns presented. Please keep sending us your thoughts on the matter.
Here are our thoughts:
1. If this is normal for how fraternities talk about women behind closed doors, we have a huge problem on our hands.
2. Is it our business at all to know how they talk about women, even if posing a threat? They have freedom of speech too and were talking on a private domain.
3. Yes of course it is our business if our lives are at risk. Which however you see it, to us, they are.
We would like casual conversations of this nature to stop and become unacceptable. In many organizations, it is appalling to communicate like this.
From one of our group: Growing up, if my dad ever heard me talk about a girl like that, I’d be grounded for weeks. This is not a “boys will be boys” scenario. We are better than that and have to promote the safety of other students.
These aren’t private anymore. We don’t choose to address them that way, a bigger issue is at hand.
