理化学研究所は4月19日、埼玉県和光市にある研究施設の一般公開で、「ラボノート」と呼ばれる実験ノートを販売した。青い表紙にのA4サイズで100枚つづり。価格は税抜きで875円（税込なら945円）。第三者が確認を行い、サインをする枠も付いている。

STAP論文をめぐり、小保方晴子さんの実験ノートがニュースでとりあげられていることもあり、「話題の実験ノートでーす！」という掛け声とともに売られていたという参加者のツイートもある。日刊スポーツによると、売れ行きは好調で、まとめ買いする人が多かったという。

実は、この実験ノートは、コクヨの「リサーチラボノート（エントリーモデル）」がベースになっている。山口大学とコクヨグループのコクヨS&T株式会社が「発明者の権利を守るための研究ノート」として産学連携で共同で開発したもので、2011年に販売を開始している。

北里大学准教授の野島高彦さんによると、実験ノートは通常、ページの抜き差しができないように、ルーズリーフなどではなく「糸とじ」などの「とじこみ式ノート」のノートを使うとされており、山口大学が初めてつくったリサーチラボノートも糸綴じになっており、全ページに連続する番号があらかじめ印刷されているなど、不正を防ぐための様々な工夫がされていた。

しかし、様々な機能を盛り込むと高額になってしまうため、リサーチラボノート（エントリーモデル）では、ページ番号は手動で振るように変更し、糸を使わない「無線とじ」とした。代わりに、ノートの側面に、ページの抜き差しがわかりやすくなる改ざん防止パターンを印刷している。

なお、このリサーチラボノートは、全国の大学生協やネット通販などでも購入でき、Amazonでは4月19日現在、523円で販売している。
