According to the 2012 National Fire Department Census, 97 percent of Pennsylvania firefighters are volunteers, and dozens of other states rely heavily on volunteers. In Delaware, 98 percent of its manpower comes from volunteers, while 97 percent of firefighters in Minnesota and North Dakota are volunteers.

Just as a heads up, since it seems you live in another country, that also has VFDs, but are extremely ignorant about what you preach since you are mentally conditioned (read: brainwashed) to believe that the government should provide everything for you.

Volunteer Fire Departments are usually the gathering space of the community, that offer tons of societal benefits, first and foremost protection of their community. Other benefits include a meeting hall for the community, voting space, wedding reception areas, local red cross donation areas, places to hold fundraisers, and even places to hold punk rock shows.

Personally growing up in an area that was served by one of these organizations, there was plenty more community, and social benefits, than living in a city, where places like this can't exist with government bureaucracy.

Volunteer fire departments are usually funded by donations from the local populace, events held in their facility, through fundraisers, and by small games of chance like bingo, that often bring together their communities, unlike areas that are served by governmental fire departments.

You post is nothing but conceited elitism, by it seems someone who would rather have the government protect them, than take any personal responsibility, or sacrifice anything to actually serve their community, while talking shit on those that do.
