ok, but what's inherently wrong about tax evasion? as if being the government and just deciding that everyone should donate 30% of their income to bureaucracy and/or bombs over middle east is normal

[–]HappyVlane 5 ポイント6 ポイント

ok, but what's inherently wrong about tax evasion?

The fact that it's illegal is a pretty big part of it, I guess.

[–]gordonpown [score hidden]

i'm asking what's immoral about it.

because it's also illegal for a child to sell lemonade to its neighbor.

i'm asking what's immoral about it.

It's not a moral issue. Don't try and bring morals into it.

because it's also illegal for a child to sell lemonade to its neighbor.

That depends on several factors, all defined by laws and is usually not a problem.

  1. i asked what's wrong, not what's illegal
  2. yes, depends, and it violates my liberty.

The fact that it is illegal is what's wrong about it. A government provides services that you use daily and without taxes it's not going to be able to provide those.

yes, depends, and it violates my liberty.

And sometimes violating freedom is for the best, because safety is important.

you sure need safety from eating what you want. oh, and yourself, see NSA

the fact that a country doesn't just have tax laws for no reason, but an entire set of laws that each need to be followed in order to operate. if you're seriously asking why taxes need to be paid then you don't understand how governments work

[–]BusinessCashew [score hidden]

Because you use the roads and the post office and all of the other shit that the government does for you, and taxes are what pay for that. Not paying taxes is stealing.

[–]gordonpown [score hidden]

they do it to me whether I like it or not, and if i don't use their post office (which is true, national post is shit in my country and i think in yours too) they still make me pay for it.

hell, they recently passed a new obligatory tax for public television even if you don't have a tv. is not paying that stealing too?

so: if I wash your car and bill you for 100$, do you feel morally obligated to pay? or are you pissed because you'd do it yourself for free the next day?

if you still think that's okay, then if I washed your car AND dropped a bomb on another neighbor's house, then billed you for both, would you still be okay with that?

[–]BusinessCashew [score hidden]

They don't do it to you whether you like it or not, you obviously like it because you remain in that country. Taxes are payment for the luxury of living in a modern society.

[–]gordonpown [score hidden]

OH I SEEE tell that to the Chinese who had their income tax removed for small businesses and now the economy is booming

also taxes are taken and bombs are bought in every country, and policemen will charge me for driving with my seatbelts off in every country too. is that luxury? no. that's slavery.

[–]BusinessCashew [score hidden]

Move to China then, dude.

[–]HappyVlane [score hidden]

Oh boy, you are one piece of work you know that?

OH I SEEE tell that to the Chinese who had their income tax removed for small businesses and now the economy is booming

I'm going to take this at face-value, because I'm too lazy to check if this is true.
Of course the economy is going to grow when you remove the tax part. The removal is an incentive for businesses to open and grow, that's the point.

and policemen will charge me for driving with my seatbelts off in every country too. is that luxury? no. that's slavery.

You have absolutely no idea what slavery is, why policemen exist and what safety regulations are.

its not just about you, taxes are for the maintenance of an entire society not just the maintenance of the things you personally use and nothing else. If you want to be able to use things like roads and schools then sometimes you have to pay taxes for things that other people in your society need like unemployment checks or the post office.

[–]gordonpown [score hidden]

its not just about me, but everyone can be presented with the same choice and come out even or better without the government wasting half of the cash.

and people need work, not unemployment checks.

[–]Rakthul [score hidden]

its not wrong because its the necessary cost for maintaining the infrastructure of the society you live it. If you don't like paying taxes and don't think you should pay anything by all means go live on a deserted island by yourself without electricity, running water, roads, schools, etc.

If you don't like the tax rates or how the government goes about maintaining your country's infrastructure that's a different discussion entirely.
