Maybe if he took his Beats headphones off he would have heard her say no.

All he could hear was "I'm the man, I'm the man, I'm the man".

It might be quite simple,

but...Now that it's done

I hope you don't mind...

Wasn't Richard Sherman also in Beats by Dre using the same song?

Yes, but what does that have to do with anything?

*Kisses bicep

I honestly cannot listen to that song anymore because of that commercial.

I usually crack a smile when I hear it because it reminds me of the last season of football. I can't help but smile and get all giddy on the inside when I think about that.

every time i hear that song on the radio i think about the nfc championship game where that commercial played during every commercial break. even after kaep lost.

Or maybe "I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map!" from Dora the Explorer.

[–]TexansWham_Bam_Smash -3 ポイント-2 ポイント

Why is this comment so polarizing/angering people so much? It's dark humor sure, but It's not a celebration of rape or something like people seem to be making it out to be. If anything this is more a pun on Kaep's exposure via his advertisements (see also: Papa John/Peyton jokes).

Also, we don't have a full picture so this might be a non-story to begin with. Because he's being investigated, this is now suddenly a confirmed rape story? I read the article, there's nothing substantial there yet.

Ah yes. Sexual assault. So fucking hilarious.

ಠ_ಠ

The funny part of the joke isn't the "rape" itself.

I don't get it. Part of humor is crossing the line. All good comedians joke about the blackest of subject matter.

I would never condone rape, and I think it is a horrendous act. The fact of the matter is this is an initial allegation that most likely will go nowhere. It's not as though we are making light of details of a proven horrific crime. We're busting the balls of a heated rival by joking about his endorsement deal.

People need to get off their high horses.

Won't somebody please think of the children!

To play devil's advocate, the whole point about monitoring what you say in a public forum isn't about not offending people.

It's about the people who legitimately are racist/sexist/whatever finding justification by people making light of it. It's about the handful of people who read the comment and come away with "Yeah, what a victim card playing slut." Those people actually exist, and whether or not you are joking doesn't matter to them.

You might see a joke, they see hundreds of people validating their point of view. It's a potentially dangerous phenomenon we have to be careful of.

I get it. You make valid points all around.

The problem I have is that we joke all the time about Hernandez being a murderer. In literally every thread there is a joke about him. But do people go all moral crusader on behalf of Odin Lloyd? Almost never.

Make a joke about murder, no problem. Make a joke about an alleged sexual assault, and suddenly everyone has a moral compass. It's a double standard, especially in primarily male subreddits such as this. It's like it's forbidden.

Except you don't often respond to "Bob was murdered the other night" with "Well how was he dressed? Was he drunk? How do we even know he's dead? Maybe he was asking for it."

For clarity's sake: not "you" as in you specifically.

That's true. In this instance, though, I have seen absolutely none of that. There has been no "slut shaming" or questioning the integrity of the woman, at least in comments not overrun by downvotes.

You're right, but it's not about the people responding in this thread.

It's about the handful of people who read the comment and come away with "Yeah, what a victim card playing slut."

To be fair, the OP does a better job of punching up than the other comments about Kaep vs. Green Bay. Using rape in that context normalizes it far more than commenting about Beats.

Nah, he really doesn't make any valid points honestly.

His point boils down to "don't make jokes, because bad people might take them the wrong way and not realize they're a joke."

That may be one of the dumbest fucking arguments against offensive jokes I've ever heard in my life.

I understand where he is coming from, though. There are some morons who will come away with some sort of confirmation that their fucked up beliefs are valid because people joke about it.

However, why should we adjust our thinking just because a tiny minority of complete dumbasses decide to take everything literally? Most of us on here are perfectly capable of understanding that rape is terrible, and we would never truly wish that upon someone. If that is above all else the truth (which of course it is for most), then it allows us to make jokes.

That's why if you make a rape joke it has to be about the rapist.

Do I really have to filter myself worrying about people like that? The thing about people like that is they look for whatever validates their belief, but they tune out everything else. It doesn't make a difference if we're preaching a good word, they'll still look for something to draw their racist beliefs on.

Can't I just have my cheap joke and move on with my day without worrying?

Good points otherwise.

There's a difference between crossing the line for a good joke and crossing the line just to cross the line. Reddit comments fall largely in the latter.

Professional umbrage takers. White knights. Pussies. Call them what you'd like, but they're annoying as fuck.

Nothing is sacred when it comes to humor.

Sounds like you are on the high horse bud, no one here is condoning rape.

You completely reversed my point.

No one is endorsing rape.

Seriously. Someone's always gotta dramatize for the 'moral high ground' karma.

The sad part is there is a better "Beats by Colin Kaepernick" joke to be made.

Rapethlisberger is upvoted all the time in this sub. I don't get it.

EDIT: Polarizing I see. Guess I should expect it cause this is Reddit afterall.

[–]Felshatner 6

[–]PackersKoNy_BoLoGnA 2 ポイント3 ポイント

Good god this fucking back and forth happens every single time sexual assault is mentioned.

We get it. Some people think rape jokes are funny and some don't. People just need to shut the hell up on both sides

[–]Eaglesdonny_pots 2 ポイント3 ポイント

Granted rape/sexual assault are not a laughing matter, but if you get your panties in a bunch every time someone says something offensive on the internet life is gonna be hard for you

Dear r/nfl,

Every time someone makes a reference to something that already happened in this subreddit, it does not mean you have to start throwing around the word "circlejerk" like it's fucking confetti.

Thanks,

[–]Chiefsjawookie 1

Other then the Browns or Jaguars (for obvious reasons) I think I have seen at least 1 fan from every team say "Everybody hates us". It must be an awful life to go through thinking everybody is against you all the time.

That being said, Steelers fans are a bunch of mouth breathing, rape loving, assholes, do everybody should hate them.

yep, I think that's usually the case with every teams franchise players. If there's something outside of the sport that is a "big deal" they're involved in (Ray Lewis with alleged murder, Randy Moss with his off the field problems, Tom Brady with Uggs), then you realize over time that defending your players integrity in the face of retarded accusations can take a lot of time. I've seen more people come to Ray Lewis's defense recently than before, not sure if that's based on evidence or not, but it's proof the opinions can change seemingly over time.

It says something that instead of murder or rape, the big evil act by Brady is fashion related...

To be fair they were uggs

Funny story: I have a friend who lived in Milledgeville, GA (where the Rapethlisberger incident happened) and he called me from a strip club the night it happened. He told a few of us (drunkenly of course),

"DUUUDEE THIS GUY WAS IN HERE WHO LOOKED JUST LIKE BEN ROETHESLSIFA;LFBER!"

So we decided to fuck with him and just egged it on.

"Dude. That was Ben Roethlisberger!"

"WOOOOOOOOOOOWWW I KIND OF HUNG OUT WITH BEN ROETHLSBGGR AT A STRIP CLUB!"

Next day, that incident was front-page news. We thought he was just drunk and fucking with us. Now, apparently in the bathroom at that place, there's a gigantic fathead of Roethlisberger on the wall.

Dude. He's white. White people don't rape. They date rape, which is basically a more nuanced serial dater.

This is reddit. Jokes all around. Sorry if it hurt you though. It's one of those things that don't get the sensitivity it deserves.

I should be used to it I guess. Reddit as a whole does it too.

[–]PackersChief_McCloud 0 ポイント1 ポイント

It's a hard thing to joke about without diminishing or trivializing it. Joke to cope, not to dismiss or exploit.

Oh cmon don't be that guy

Not making jokes won't change it.

[–]GiantsGuy_Buttersnaps 2 ポイント3 ポイント

The joke isn't poking fun at sexual assault, it's poking fun at those stupid commercials. You could replace sexual assault with any crime he might be accused of and the joke would function the exact same way.

"Colin Kaepernick taken into custody after police chase." Maybe if he took his Beats headphones off he would have heard the sirens.

"Colin Kaepernick arrested for DUI." Maybe if he took his Beats headphones off he would have heard all his friends telling him he was in no shape to drive.

Et cetera.

EDIT: That other popular joke below likening raping someone to beating a team in football, now that one is outrage worthy.

I say ban all assault sexuals.

Yeah, come on over to reddit for the lack of rape jokes...hve you been here before??

Let's just be super serious all the time about everything. No jokes about death, no jokes about disease, money, war, and definitely not rape. From now on, let's agree to only be funny about happy things, ok guys?

Welcome to reddit, where edgy rape jokes, homophobia, and racism are all embraced

[–]toilet_crusher 2 ポイント3 ポイント

Ah, the top comment is a rape joke. That's me off reddit for the rest of the day then.

If you boycott the internet everytine a random stranger says something stupid you might as well just move to the woods and start your life as a hermit.

Maybe he just doesn't want to associate with/interact with people who make rape jokes, even on the internet?

or maybe he's got a stick up his ass and takes reddit a little too seriously.

Then what is he doing on reddit? Especially in /r/nfl

the fact that r/nfl is especially prone to rape jokes isn't ok. some of us just want to talk about football.

    [–][deleted]

Wait... so because it's a thread about an alleged sexual assault, there has to be rape jokes? It's sad that people like you exist.

Guess he can fuck right off then, huh? Nobody's forcing him to be here.

Ah yes, the solution to the problem is avoidance. How dare he expect football discussion and not rape jokes in /r/NFL.

/r/imgoingtohellforthis would be glad to house all of y'all so you can get your rape joke fix for the day.

And what football discussion would you like to take place here? Hmm? Should we talk about formations? Rules? Plays? Trades? Or none of the above because the article itself isn't about anything football related.

I'd suggest to you that if you only want to talk about football, you don't go into the comments section for articles that don't talk about football.

I don't agree with that. People could be talking about the validity of the source, the potential impact this could have on the 49ers, how the league might handle the situation. ect.

Instead the top comment is a quick joke about rape. I don't see why that's appropriate or accepted in any context.

I don't see why that's appropriate or accepted in any context.

Because most people don't walk around with a broomstick in their ass, that's why. Have fun looking for things to be offended about!

Because I disapprove of rape jokes, I've got a broomstick up my ass. Got it.

I hope I never have the misfortune of meeting you.

I have to laugh at your comments in this thread. You complain about people being pissed at insensitive jokes, and yet you come across as even more shrill than they are. Someone piss in your cornflakes this morning?

if you only want to talk about football, you don't go into the comments section for articles that don't talk about football.

Sexual assault allegations on a football player = talking about football and industry news. Rape jokes? Fuck no. Fuck off.

Agreed but there's certain stuff that's extra stupid. When /r/nfl turns into TRP for a day, I'm out.

It's not that he's just a random stranger. it's that r/nfl/ collectively thinks this bullshit deserves to be at the top. When you're totally surrounded by immature assholes in a community, sometimes it's time for a break.

Are you sure the world can handle your boycott?

WHY DOESN"T EVERYONE TAKE REDDIT AS SERIOUSLY AS I DO

I'm not the world's biggest Kaep supporter. I have even disliked him from his days at Nevada (Boise State fan) but I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes these things are blown out of proportion or completely false. I remember the incident with Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov earlier this year. People hear he apparently hit his wife and everyone on HFBoards jumped on him and called him an atrocious human being before any of the facts were even publicized. When you go back and see just how shady the actions of his girlfriend are you realize that a good amount of the time the victim is the player.

I don't judge the guy one way or another. Let the facts come out. I'm not a fan but I hope they aren't true. I think he's a good quarterback and would be terrible to lose a player like him in the league due to problems like this.
