I don't think that Ark Faction are the guys attacking Earth. The factions probably have conflicting plans when it comes to saving humanity, with one of them wanting to defend the planet, and the other wanting to build an ark and leave Earth before it's fucked by aliens. Less hopes in earth defense -> less money put into the Intercept plan -> more money put into the Ark plan.

I thought the timejump format was pretty well put together. They got a of backstory and flashback stuff out of the way in a hurry which other shows would hold onto until later episodes.

Probably the place a lot of the Wing or Eva hate comes from - on its own it'd be ok for what it is, but there was a part of the fanbase that continually lauded it as the be all and end all of anime. Which in turn generated a bad name for the show, and that ill feeling has outlived the original cause.

I'd say its mainly because of the potential it had being fantastic but not being utilized 100% but its not as bad as many people make it out to be.

What bothers me about AO is they HAD to connect it to the original series instead of it being its own thing.

It could've been a distant sequel, given how different everything is. Have references here and there to the original show but have it tell its own story, not connected to the original.
