@jumbatales Sorry, I find no racists here. I find people who are willing to call out bs news reporting. And tell me, just how many of Chimamanda's books have you really read? Have you read Americanah? Because you'll have noticed that she mentions a lot of the things I've mentioned, especially the hilarity of whites bending themselves backward to avoid race and African Americans seeing racial slurs in everything. She is racially aware the way I am racially aware - both of us have actually lived in a country that has actual issues.
And I am not sure what I am supposed to be educating myself on. By subscribing to the idea that race matters, you are following racist thinking. Sure, in our current world, race is still a factor in a lot of things that it shouldn't be a factor in, and we're supposed to change that. We're supposed to create a world where people like Kwasi can achieve what he's achieved without even having to mention his race, where URM is an outdated word because everyone is fairly represented. So no, it doesn't matter to me that I'm black. I see nothing special about it. To me, it's akin to saying "I am human", because in the end that's all we are. I see no reason why a superficial adaptation to a hot tropical climate should define the person I am.
No, as someone who lives in an actual majority-black country, I can confidently tell you that the light-skin/dark-skin debate started with the leaking of Western culture into this side of the world. Where I live, there are plenty of people who love their coffee-grounds skin (none of that milk chocolate, hey!). One of my brothers (in a US university) has his hair in dreadlocks not as some social statement but simply because he's saving on expensive barbershop rates (and his hair, like most Africans' hair, grows that way without intensive detangling every morning). Really, I'm tired of race debates. Race didn't matter just a few centuries ago, it's mattered way too long, and now it's time we moved on.

Ever heard that saying, people only see you the way you see yourself? As long as you see yourself as black first, you will find racism wherever you go.
As for me, I am a poet, aspiring novelist, amateur researcher/inventor, graphic artist, entrepreneur, keyboardist, flautist, guitarist, music mixer, tutor, programmer, nationally recognized student, sister to the most awesome boys on the planet, and a STEM-oriented melancholic metalhead who devours literature. Black is way, way down on the list. And because that is what I project, that is the way the people I meet treat me - as a talented teenager, not a black whiner.
Where does anyone see where Kwasi is well off? Nurses are middle class at best, his school ( as the GC there said) hardly has anyone ever apply to the Ivys and ranks 4 out of 10 on best schools. He is black and has to deal with that. The fact that there are blacks on here who are striving to break the mold gets bashed? I don't get it ???
And you are arguing about who gets discriminated against more? Asians, 5% of the population who take 17% of the spots are Ivys or blacks who are 15% and take 7 % of the spots.
Yeah asians are picked on, blacks were lynched and are harassed by police.

I've done more than he's done, and yet I got rejected by all of my reach schools. I have leadership in 5 activities, lost 107 lbs my Junior year (personal achievement because I wanted to join sports really bad), wasted four of my summer at a college preparatory program, participated in 3 sports throughout my high school career, top %6 of my high school class, took more than 11 AP classes none other to have this miserable fate.
