Why is it that when women make jokes about castrating and killing men, it’s just for fun and people shouldn’t take it seriously, but when men joke about rape, it’s the most deplorable, harmful thing ever, and even suggesting it’s satire makes you scum?
Holy fuck, Brooklyn, would you give it a rest? Did you really need to send me 4 MORE messages RAGING about the dangers of misandry?
But since you bring it up, the FBI estimates that 300,000 women are raped in the United States every year. Do you know many men are castrated each year? Because I don’t. Because its such a rare event there are no statistics for it. I was only able to find 4 references to castration attacks in the news for the last two years and 3 of those were male assailants. But about 1,260 men are killed by women each year. Though, before you use that as a proof of misandry, nearly 3,000 women are murdered by men every year.
I don’t approve of jokes about castrating or killing men, but I cannot accept that as a meaningful analogue to jokes about rape. Over a 75 year life, a man will see 94,500 woman on man murders. Over that same span, a woman would see 22,500,000 women raped. The social impact of the two events isn’t remotely comparable. As a man, I am under no significant danger of being castrated or killed by a woman. 1 in 5 women will be raped in her lifetime. Whatever you think is “misandry” doesn’t put me at risk. Making light of sexual assault perpetuates a culture which has put 20% of women at risk. If you don’t get how that’s different, then that’s just pathetic of you.
