I would bet good money that Chris Christie rarely says "close the fridge"...

[–]lizardking66354 6 ポイント7 ポイント

Hence the confusion.

Can somebody explain to me like I'm a child what the big deal with Christie and that bridge was

[–]pyrojoe90Ronin 9 ポイント10 ポイント

So, if it was any old bridge, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but the bridge that had the lane closures was the George Washington Bridge, which is the busiest in the entire world. Around 280,000 vehicles travel across it every day. Two of the three lane entrances into that bridge were closed from Sept 9 to 13, essentially causing a 4 day long traffic jam that paralyzed Fort lee, New Jersey. People couldn't get to work, schools were delayed or closed, and emergency vehicles had difficulty getting to where they needed to be.

If this was just a normal lane closing for routine maintenance or (as they initially said) a "traffic survey", it would be seen as a blunder simply because of poor planning and execution, but it is unlikely that Governor Christie would have been a scandal. however, news leaked that the closing was not for a traffic survey, but as retribution against the Mayor of Fort Lee for not supporting Christie in his gubernatorial reelection campaign. It is universally seen as a big no-no to punish someone for how they voted, and an even bigger one to punish their constituents. It is clear from the emails that Christie's aides knew about and ordered the bridge closings, but not clear if Chris Christie himself new about them or ordered them. That is what the debate is about.

EDIT: Fixed spelling.

[–]dr_kingschultz 1 ポイント2 ポイント

I can totally understand that. But how was Christie connected to the lane closures? Did he send on order down the line saying "Close those lanes!" or did he make some kind of "bad karma" offhand remark towards their mayor somewhere that has since been misinterpreted leading into this?

I'm conservative but I have no blind bias to support him. I'm just genuinely curious.

[–]pyrojoe90Ronin 5 ポイント6 ポイント

Honestly, I have no idea and I don't want to speculate. Supporters of Christie say it was a few bad apples that went rogue and the Governor had absolutely nothing to do with it. Detractors say that it is obvious that he at least knew about it given how closely he works with his top advisors, and that he likely gave a direct order. A report came out recently that said he played no part in the lane closures, but the group that submitted the report was assembled by Chris Christie, so I am not sure how much weight it has. That being said, the commission was chaired by a known Democrat.

A more detailed, more independent review should be present in the coming months. Until then, unless somebody leaks some incriminating or exonerating emails, the truth remains to be seen.

So part of it is that when it was brought up to him, he joked that "Yeah, I was out there putting the cones out". He joked about it, and thought it was nothing, even though as pointed out, it had huge problems.

Evidence even shows that Christie's top aids were there watching the traffic problems.

The problem that is being figured out is if he knew, but some people are drawing the conclusion because this involved at least 5 people now, who all conspired to do this (2 form the bridge port authority, and 3 from inside Christie's admin). So one wonders why these people would risk their jobs for Christie. It seems weird to break the law and face years of prison to help your boss.

So 5 people Christie knew (he knew the bridgeport people as well) helped him out, and no one told him. It just seems really odd, and hence people think he is guilty.

Short answer: yes. But, he did hand pick a legal team that exonerated him of any wrongdoing today. It was all blamed on his top advisors. All of which have been subjected to character assassination for months now. Stand up guy.

You seem to have swallowed the state run media nonsense. The George Washington Bridge has approximately 20 lanes going from New Jersey to New York. Every week day it is a mess filled with traffic. There is an entrance to the bridge from a small adjacent town, Fort Lee. Unless you lived in that town or a town very close to it, you would never take that approach to the bridge. The approach had 3 lanes of access. For several days, they removed two of the 3 lanes from that approach and added them to all the other lanes that are accessed by 3 major highways. For those several days, I believe it was 2 days, traffic in the town of Fort Lee was a mess. 99% of those crossing the bridge approach the bridge from the 3 major highways, traffic was totally unaffected. Unaffected in that it's a nightmare every weekday. This situation has caused the Northern New Jersey liberal rag newspaper to run a negative article about Christie every day, literally everyday for the past 4 months. Because when you are a liberal rag, you need to investigate ....forever bridge traffic, but not how your inept government got an ambassador killed, had the IRS persecute a particular group of citizens, or how the leader of the regime lied for years about your insurance plans. Those are not stories worth reporting.

it's the liberal/progressive media's campaign seeing a chance to knock out the Republican front runner (at that time) who was the ONLY Republican polling ahead of the lame stream media's true love, Hillary for president 2016

[–]TheGuildedCunt -2 ポイント-1 ポイント

Oh brother. Do you realize how stupid the phrase "lame stream" media makes you sound?

[–]Wannabe2good 0 ポイント1 ポイント

only a Libtard like you is afraid of that truth

[–]TheGuildedCunt -1 ポイント0 ポイント

Yeah, libtard...another one that makes you sound like a moron. I want to abolish medicare. Does that make me a libtard? Fucking coddled baby boomers screaming about debt just makes me nuts. They've done nothing other than turn type 2 diabetes into a polio level epidemic and act like war mongers. I can't wait until they all go bankrupt from medical bills and are rotting in the street.

[–]Terron1965 2 ポイント3 ポイント

See, eventually many Liberals turn to hate mongering. They can not help it.

Your are a hateful person.

I like Rand Paul because no one hates him yet he still stands for something.

    [–]Flameon3k 0 ポイント1 ポイント

Rand Paul is a tough sell.

His opposition to military intervention might make him un-electable in the eyes of the republican donors/backers.

    [–]Jonny_Watts 0 ポイント1 ポイント

We spend a ton on military because other countries don't. So far no politician has had the balls to question this or tell the other countries to defend themselves with their money instead of ours. I have no idea if Rand Paul has a say or even cares about this discrepancy but he's one of the gutsier politicians in terms of crossing traditional lines.

    [–]Flameon3k 0 ポイント1 ポイント

I love Rand Paul personally but it is what it is, the big money boys of the GOP won't like him. And that means a hundred million being thrown at his primary opponent (Jeb Bush? He may be the anointed one in the eyes of the mainstream GOP). Sadly $$$ can make or break a candidate. And by the time they get done running all those ads against Paul he'll be done.

Also the media will not treat him fairly at all, look at companies like GE who make a fuck ton of money off of military contracts, considering they own a sizeable chunk of the media are they likely to portray him in a good light?

    Probably not.

    [–]bski1776 0 ポイント1 ポイント

He's not opposed to intervention, just less likely to intervene with lesser cause.

    [–]Flameon3k 0 ポイント1 ポイント

Yea but after a few hundred million in ads against him in a GOP primary he'll look like the next Jimmy Carter.

    [–]TheGuildedCunt -1 ポイント0 ポイント

He's too fat to be president in an era of television. Anyway, did you forget that Hillary lost a primary to a black guy? People don't like her. Anyway, it doesn't really make any difference. About the only difference between Bush/Cheney and Obama is that Joe Biden doesn't get a hard on thinking about torturing brown people.

    [–]Flameon3k 0 ポイント1 ポイント

Hilary lost a primary to a black guy

10/10 if trolling, racist as shit if serious.

Sens. Leland Yee, Ron Calderon, Rod Wright gets very little coverage. Christie gets 24/7 coverage for months.

I don't really know why conservatives are getting giddy about bridge-gate. Without Christie The NJ governorship goes blue.

    [–]Jt_elemental -3 ポイント-2 ポイント

This guy is no Republican. He's a blue-dog. He's from New Jersey, for chrissake. The Libs squeezed the dems out and they bumped into the Repubs. We've been a 3-party system for years, only there are two of them inside of the Republicans. If you didn't see all of the Democrat's trademarks in the mismanagement of big government in the storm recovery, you are blind and have had a drink of the kool-aid, too.
