What better place to escape March unpleasantness than a cycling-mad Caribbean island like Guadeloupe? There’s nothing like a sun-filled cycling vacation on the horizon to keep the workout motivation going for a few more weeks. And in the French West Indies, the good weather is guaranteed. The daily high is always in the low 80s, the evening low in the upper 60s.
In addition to the sun and warmth of the Caribbean, Guadeloupe has an intricate network of calm country roads. Leading in every direction, the smooth ribbons of asphalt wind through cane-fields, through the mid-island hill country, and along the coasts.
It sounds implausible, but it is possible to leave most snowbound East Coast cities in the morning and find yourself spinning along next to the ocean in Guadeloupe that afternoon. So, following in the tradition of the sage who advised Caesar, we strongly advise leaving town in March. Ignore this advice at your own risk!
