Ok...so...this is weird because I almost never post anything in my journal....But this is basically a rant about MMD because I have been increasingly disappointed by many of its users and felt as though I wanted to share my feelings with someone. If you don't feel like reading, I don't blame you XD....Anyway, here I go...

So something has been bothering me lately about the vocaloid community, the MMD community in particular. When I first discovered MMD, I thought the idea of animating the characters was so cool. I loved the models that came with the program, and was excited when I found out you could download other models and import them. There were so many options! I actually wondered if there was a way to create models, since I've always loved character creator type games. When I found out about PMD editor, I was extremely excited, and even though it took me many tries to actually get it working, it was totally worth it. In the beginning, even just recoloring the models was fun. As I discovered more things I wanted to make, I learned more ways to do it. I made lots of models that I never even showed anyone, and then one day, after seeing that many people were posting and sharing the models they'd created, got the idea to do the same. I made a set of Higurashi models and posted a video on youtube of them. I never expected anyone to actually want them, so that was a surprise to me. I knew they were glitchy though. I hadn't made them to be distributed, I'd only created them because I thought it was fun. That was why I didn't want to give out such glitchy models. A lot of people offered to help me fix them, but no one has actually been successful, so I suspect that most of those people only offered because they wanted me to send them the models. Sure, that's slightly irksome but who cares really? What did they get out of it? A few crappy models? And is that hurting me? No, not really. This is why I get extremely confused when people have huge arguments over someone editing a model without the maker's permission or anything like that. Yes, I understand that its annoying but I become slightly disgusted when I see a huge feud over such a miniscule problem. People have just become so petty. It seems like many model makers are actually creating models JUST for the sake of having their models become popular, which in my opinion is absolutely ridiculous. What is the point of making models if its only for other people? MMD used to be for fun, and I miss that. When I realized that people actually wanted the models I was making, I started to learn physics so I could make them less glitchy. I was really flattered that anyone would want models I had made, but that was just a bonus. Still to this day, I make models for myself. I'm once again, extremely flattered by requests but to be honest I'm much more likely to get a request done quickly (or at all) if it's one I find interesting and fun. It might sound selfish, but I just don't see the point of only creating models for other people. I'm finding more and more superficiallity in the MMD community and it is extremely disappointing to me. I wish model makers would stop being so petty. I wish experienced MMD users wouldn't act so condescending toward new users, since we were all new once. Basically, I wish everyone would stop the politics and just be kind to eachother. MMD is a fun program and everyone should just enjoy it.

I agree. I'm not even part of the MMD community, despite being a user. And I love the way you wrote this!

When I was new to MMD, it was still fun.
But now since I discovered some other modelers,
it all just seems like serious buisness and money. :icondoublefacepalmplz:

I'm new to MMD and learning but not new to my profession in the game industry. I enjoy building things from nothing for just some appreciation which is a good deal considering what my time is worth. I take a lot a pride in making things from scratch but I don't mind if ppl have fun with my hard work and inspires them to mod it. All I ask is if they are going to give credit to anyone give it to the right ppl otherwise don't say anything. I've worked with ppl professionally unrelated to MMD that have stolen credit for them selves which is a huge nono. But I'm also finding other model authors to be too extreme with their demands. My solution to this is simple. Time-lapse your work as you create it and post it publicly if someone still steels your credit you have solid evidence that you are the author.

Currently I get more enjoyment out of making a character out of thin air and seeing it come to life. It takes a lot of time to make one which leaves me with little time to play with it and make cool videos so currently I guess I make models for others to use and target characters that are either don't exist yet for the MMD community or I feel really lack quality.

That's a really interesting story you have there.
Well, I believe many people just think: "Pff, no one would be that ignorant and ignore my rules! Everyone will follow them of course!"
But exactly that is the risk of publishing something.
I guess some people just forget that and then get all butthurt over it when the rules got broken.
Oh, and I took a look at your stuff and it looks really amazing!
I wish I was as professional as you q w p

Yeah, I agree with you. Some ppl are pretty delusional to think they can make a rule without any way to enforce it and expect every person to follow it. But on the flip side I can understand their frustration specially if credit is blatantly stolen.

I'm really turned off by both extremes. Authors that seem to require too many special requests and people that disrespect a persons hard work.

I said it somewhere before but the internet kinda makes communication numb which is a problem. If models were passed on in person I'm sure the face to face interaction would change how someone felt about another persons work.

Hehe thx for the kind comments :D

Ah yes, I couldn't have said it better.
But this passing-on-in-person would be wrong, too,
because then there would be way too many complications,
for example geohraphical distances.
I believe this is a good example for the good old 'one hand feeds the other':
The modelers need to calm down a bit and maybe be less strict and the receivers
need to show more respect and follow the rules more.

Oh yeah haha, I don't mean that as a real solution. I'm more or less speaking in a perfect world were that sort of thing could be possible. Yeah I see a lot of modelers ((some don't even fit the definition imho, like using geometry from other characters and stick them together and now I'm a modeler? rofl.. anyways)) that kind of almost sound rude with their demands. I feel right away kinda put off by that. I've never used someone else stuff yet besides to study for learning purposes but if I were someone that wanted to use it for a video I could see them caring a little less about following the rules when a modeler comes off as a strict attention grabbing jerk lol. I try have passion while I'm working but disconnect my self with my work when its done which lets me to not get so wrapped up in guidelines and rules. Its something I have to practice daily professionally like some kinda monk. Honestly I just want to see ppl have fun with it but I would get bothered if I saw someone stealing my hard work by announcing it was something they created. I believe if you keep you're cool and have confidence in your skill without announcing your greatness ppl are much more likely to naturally respect you and appreciate you. ^_^

Mhm, you're definitely right.
Well, I think if someone steals another one's creation and says it was theirs,
I don't think anyone would believe him anyways.
People could ask: "Hey, can you make a model of [...]? Because you're an amazing modeler!"
And maybe the person would say "lol nope i dont want to" which already makes him really weird in my opinion.
And about editing: I think if a person edits a model and gives it away, they definitely should not make rules for them except maybe the rules of the original models,
because the person cannot take credit for anything he did except the take-off-and-stick-together.

I wish I was a great modeler like you but it seems like I have to stick to editing q w q ||

Yeah haha, I've yet to be asked to make anything for anyone so I haven't been faced with that situation but I understand what you mean. It would be odd for someone to claim they did something but turn down a opportunity to use their skill. Lol I'm afraid to say that because a persons time is a real factor which may prevent them from accepting new projects. Model edits are entertaining to me because of how these "modelers" act about their work/edits and how protective they are while I build something and end up not caring too much whats done with it. I mean its definitely an art to it, that I can appreciate. I relate it to something like Forza's motorsports decal editor. You can only use pre-made shapes but what you can do with those shapes are amazing and takes days which is a art in it self! But don't feel bad about making model edits, its not easy either in its own respects. But if you want to learn software like max or maya its not too hard and you can make anything! :D
