MMD is artThis has been weighing on my mind for a little while. I see time and time again, people (non MMDers obviously) who bash others who use MMD saying that it is not art and it is "illegal" because it uses someone else's work.
First I would like to address the incorrect notion that it is illegal:
The modelers give the users permission to use their model by making it available for public download. Therefore, it is indeed legal as long as credit is given where credit is due and the terms and conditions of usage are being properly followed.
Secondly, MMD (MikuMikuDance for those of you who aren't familiar with the term, is a 3D posing and rendering freeware that involves usage of 3D models) is art. People put their time and energy into creating beautiful pictures and videos using MMD.
I myself have spent a whole day on one video just making sure that it was perfect and I know others who have done the same as I have. Also, art is a form of expression. MMD is a program that people use to express

MMD A discussion on Illegal Edits

There are very few topics that elicit more "passionate" discussions within MMD than the controversy surrounding what are generally referred to as "Illegal Edits". Now, I've publically made the statement that I did not believe that there's such a thing as an "Illegal Edit", but then again that's just an opinion.
I could be totally wrong too.
Which is why, I felt it would be a useful exercise to look at this issue in a rational manner purely for the purposes of discussion. The views presented herein, are solely mine. Although, I will be touching on the subject from a "Legal" perspective, let me state clearly that I am not a lawyer, so what is presented here is my interpretation which may or may not be correct.
In order for this discussion to provide any useful information, I have divided the topic into several areas that I feel are relevant and need to be examined in some detail. These will be:

DETAILS

The images must be NEW, as in, published on or after October 1, 2013.
Entries, for the most part, must be made in MMD. You can use any models, effects, backgrounds, that you please.
You MAY edit and MMD render using photo-manipulation software such as GIMP, Photoshop, Pivix, MS Paint, or other program of your choice. The important part is the base image comes from MMD.
No judges this time, just me and my opinions~ If I need a second opinion I'll ask.

css breaking journal designshey all! i woke up this morning to find my whole journal design broken. it suddenly looked like this, with a bunch of extra space and little "external link" graphics next to each image. turns out deviantart now automatically adds a new CSS class, called "external", to all external links (including image links like those used in my journal), ruining the design.
i suddenly thought of a solution, and since i figured other people might have this problem too, i wanted to share it here! what i did was replace external links with the one that deviantart automatically generates. so instead of a link to loish.net, i made it a link to "http://www.deviantart.com/users/outgoing?http://loish.net". then it's no longer interpreted as an external link and the ugly boxes don't appear. hopefully someone will find this useful! :]

Well we might have nipped SOPA and PIPA in the buns for now (remain vigilante, they may resurface) but ACTA is proving to be just as scary..
First off, I am not a lawyer or a student of the law. I have done several hours of research and these are the conclusions I've reached, they may not be 100% accurate.

One of the scarier aspects of ACTA is IPs will be legally required to examine every byte of information you transfer over the internet to make sure it contains no copyrighted, or otherwise illegal, data... This includes things such as emails, IMs, all internet activity, and even your chat among other gamers when playing your favorite MMO or online game of any sorts. &

Quite a fresh blog, but I can see that it might go somewhere and has lots of potential to be a good opinion blog.

Things we love about MMD a.k.a MMD Appreciations
A blog that has been running since December 18th, 2012 and never ceased to be positive. A truly refreshing place from all the 'drama'.

MMD Problems
Quite an amusing and popular blog with lots of different opinions expressed in it. The admin seems to be quite the person, but that's what makes this blog good as the admin is taking none of the users shit.

MMD Tips
I think that the title speaks for itself. The blog contains more than 100 useful tips not only for a beginner but for an older user too. You might be surprised with things you didn't know about MMD.

Great MMD Models!
You might not find any download links here, but it's still a great blog to feast your eyes on great MMD models. The poses for pictures are very nice, so it's really something to look at

Rude MMD user confessions
Where do I even start with this blog.. If you are not easily butthurt and love to watch 'drama' and others being talked about then this blog is just for you. Amusement for hours, trust me.

MMD'er Confessions
A blog where all kinds of confessions are being made. You might even find one of yourself! Quite interesting to see what others have to say, or be amused by some of the confessions. Has more than 100 of them, so quite a reading material

Citru Smoothie and Citru Soda
Two great blogs for model and stage downloads. Smoothie is for models and Soda is a fresh blog for stages. All download links are from original linkers and most of the passwords are included. Very useful blogs for any type of MMDer.

There are other great MMD blogs out there, good and bad ones, but I can't list them all, can I? I hope that some of you might find this useful, amusing or just interesting.
