We have been working for a long time to create an improved experience for CurseForge, and the time has come to showcase the fruition of our labor in the form of a beta version of our Minecraft site: http://minecraft-beta.curseforge.com.

Please, try to break as much as you can and give feedback on what you like and dislike so we have data to work with during our continued development. Keep in mind that several core functionalities are not yet implemented such as the issue tracker and repository support.

Projects created on the beta site will not synchronize to either Curse.com or to the Curse Client, and at the end of the beta run all projects will be deleted - this is strictly for testing and feedback purposes.

We hope you enjoy the new look and feel, and we're looking forward to your feedback!

As always, you can find our database of Forge Mods on Curse.com here! Back to Top

You can play Minecraft on the PC. You can play Minecraft on the XBOX 360. You can even play Minecraft on your iPhone and Android devices. Where's the love for the Playstation 3? IT'S FINALLY HERE, IS WHAT IT IS.

Minecraft is now live on the Playstation 3! Create your very own game world and explore, build and conquer. When night falls the monsters appear, so ensure you’ve made yourself a shelter before they arrive. Make it through the night and the world is only limited by your imagination you choose what you want to make or what to do. Play on your own, cooperatively with friends in 2 player and 4 player split screen modes, or online with up to 8 players.

Much like MCX360, local multiplayer split-screen play requires an HD TV with an HD connection.

In addition, MCPS3 also has a Festive Skin Pack available at launch, for only 0.99 USD! Pretty awesome!

Minecraft continues to set records for sales, clearing 30 million total sales across 3 separate platforms (desktop, console, mobile), with a little over 13 million sales just on desktop alone. Will MCPS3 pass up MCX360? Only time will tell! Back to Top

In-game names: they define who we are, and how the world knows us. What isn't often explored is, how we get the names we have.

NAMING - IN THE BEGINNING

I had the curious privilege of seeing the internet as we know it form into what it is today from my childhood. There was a dark time, a scary time, when the internet wasn't really a thing people knew about, or used. We had to do some scary stuff to get information back then. DARK things. Things like, "asking people questions in real life". Who even has time for that, right? How did we live?!

When it came time to have a presence on the internet, I went through a lot of names. The one I probably had the longest (before Sacheverell) was "Pretzel", a handle I used in a lot of MMOs and FPS games. What made me choose that name? I was probably hungry. Who knows. What mattered was that people knew me by that name, and it became a part of me. Our in-game names are, in a sense, who we are; it's not even what the name implies, or where it came from, but the association we bring with it. When someone sees our in-game name, they immediately think of us, the person - what we're like, whether we're friends or not, games we play together, all that good stuff. The nature of an in-game name isn't exactly rocket science, but there is one part of it that fascinates me to no end: the origin of a name.

WHO WE ARE TODAY, AND WHY

I would never ask of you anything I wouldn't do myself, so let's start with the origin of my in-game name, "Sacheverell". In short, it came from a love for tabletop games. Without getting into all the boring details, it was the name of an entity in a particular game that I thought sounded neat, had a neat theme, and it was fun to say aloud, besides. In my voice-acting work, it was handy to have a name that resonated in a catchphrase, and it serves that purpose well. If I had to name one regret over it though, it would be how much trouble people seem to have with it, both in spelling and spoken aloud: I've seen Sacherevell, Sachaverall, Suchaverel, and countless other variations. Out loud, it gets even sillier. A wise man once told me that I should've picked an easier name, and in many ways, he was right. If I had stuck with something simpler - say, Pretzel - there would be a lot less confusion. To be fair, I've seen a lot of people mistakenly call him "criticsquid", which seems to bother me a lot more than it bothers him. Though, the idea of replacing a citrus-based descriptor with the image of a film critic still makes me giggle a little.

WHO ARE YOU, AND WHY

Forget me for a minute, let's talk about you! What made you choose your in-game name? Is there a cool back-story, with some deeper personal meaning? Did you take it off a cereal box? Smash the keyboard with a hammer? No story is too awesome or silly! Let's hear about your in-game name! Back to Top

AS IT IS

I've been involved in the Minecraft community for a very long time. Years, even. The game itself has grown and evolved in some fascinating and amazing ways, but the one thing that continues to amaze me even after all this time, is the Minecraft community.

Many talented people have made (and continue to make) incredible things within, and around, the game: complex mods which can add every conceivable customization, videos that range from hilarious musical parodies to in-depth play sessions and tutorials, adventure maps and texture packs which demonstrate mind-blowing levels of creativity, and so much more. People pour their hearts and souls into these projects, and the end-results show it. Many of them develop a fiercely loyal fan-base, eager to see their next big creation. My job has been - since August of 2011 - to bring these sorts of awesome creations to the attention of the community, so they can share in the experience, and maybe see something they might not have otherwise had the joy of knowing. Not every creation shown in this way has been popular, but for the most part, I've taken immense joy in seeing these amazing creations get an outpouring of support and praise from new and returning fans alike. Nothing brings a smile to my face quite like seeing all of you get excited at a community-made project, and getting involved with it.

There has always been one particularly sensitive topic over the years, despite my best efforts - multiplayer communities. In the past, it made more sense to me why that was the case; for the most part, multiplayer servers have spent years being tightly-knit groups of friends, and while the occasional server(s) would come by, luring in many new players with a neat new game mode idea, or creative building project, or even just as a hub for fans of a particular personality, they have changed a great deal over time. Many multiplayer communities have - much as every creative project in Minecraft - grown beyond their origins, into something much bigger.

THE COMMUNITY NEVER STOPS GROWING

The Minecraft community is an ever-growing body of people, from all walks of life, and from every corner of the planet. As that body of players grows, more and more of them begin congregating into sub-communities of their own, each with their own culture, likes, dislikes, and personality. Part of that growth has seen the rise of incredibly large multiplayer community servers, each with their own culture, activities, and themes. In the interest of representing the community as it grows, I feel it is important to take a look at these servers - all of them, not merely a select few - and show them to the community at large, much as I have with videos, mods, maps, and the like.

From my perspective, a massive and dedicated community of players centered around a particular style of play is no less remarkable than a highly polished animation, or a deeply engrossing mod. I'd like to show more of these servers in the future, hopefully for others to enjoy, but at the end of the day, that isn't my call to make - it is yours.

YOU DECIDE - A POLL

I have always done my best to bring the very best of the community to the community, because you are the lifeblood of Minecraft, and deserve both the recognition and attention that brings. Part of that responsibility is making sure the community spotlights I'm bringing you will be something you will enjoy, and that has not changed since I first came to the Minecraft Forum. Many people feel I am inaccessible, or do not listen to what the community wants. Quite the contrary - I spend a considerable amount of time reading your comments in every single article I've ever written - and many recent comments made me reconsider my stance on spotlighting servers of any kind, going forward. It isn't up to me to decide what you like, so I will now ask you directly.

I have posted a poll asking whether you would like to see multiplayer servers be added to Community Creations spotlights from here on. Please leave a vote on whether you would like that or not, and if you like, feel free to leave a comment in the article as well! I will read them all, and take your feedback into consideration.

The poll is at the top of this page (or, if you are reading this from the front page, can be seen by clicking here). Please leave a vote, make your voice heard, and I will move forward with your feedback as the deciding factor!

I will, within reason, attempt to answer questions in the comments section as well, if it helps to clarify something you might be wondering about. No one in this community deserves to feel as though they are unheard, or that they do not matter. Every single one of you matters!

The 1.7.3 Pre-Release is here! YAY!

  • Added integrated Twitch broadcasting! See below for details.
  • Fixed render distances above 8 (may not work in multiplayer, servers have their own view distance they limit you to)
  • Many bug fixes and optimizations!

Mojang's very own Dinnerbone had the following to say about 1.7.3:

Dinnerbone said:

At Minecon we announced our new partnership with Twitch to bring one-click broadcasting to Minecraft. It has been in the recent snapshots, and proven to be very stable and ready to go live.

Before you can start streaming, you will need to visit your Mojang account settings and link a Twitch account to your Mojang account. Then in the game you may check the quality settings in Options -> Broadcast Options, or just go ahead and start broadcasting at any time by hitting F6. This key can be configured in the Controls options.

This is only supported on Windows (Vista and higher) and Mac OS X Lion (10.7) and higher. If you cannot start broadcasting ingame for any reason, the game will tell you why and possibly how to fix it.

To get pre-releases, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher.

One-button livestreaming? Bugfixes? Awesome!
