Koreans Biggest Johns of Southeast Asian Hookers

Koreans outnumber all other nationalities in patronizing prostitutes in Southeast Asia, according to a study by the Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) based on information from various international sources.

In addition to field studies in the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia, KIC compiled reports by the UN, the US and other sources, reviewed arrest records at local police stations and interviewed local social workers, bar workers and residents. All sources support the conclusion that Koreans outstrip even tourists from the far larger nations of Japan and China in visits to prostitutes.

For starters, Koreans are among the top visitors of many southeast Asian nations. The Philippines received 920,000 Koreans in 2011, more than any other foreign nationality. Vietnam received more Koreans than any other nationality except Chinese. Cambodia received 340,000 Koreans, second only to those from neighboring Vietnam.

A 2010 report by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime cited Koreans the biggest clients of child prostitutes in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. That conclusion was reinforced by the US State Department’s annual report on human trafficking which said Korean men are the main clients of child prostitutes in Southeast Asia and Pacific islands. It also noted that the Korean government has done nothing to curb the trend.

Korea has done so little that 77.7% of Korean tourists didn’t even know that paying for sex overseas violates Korean law, according to a KIC survey of 900 tourists conducted last October. A slightly higher percentage (78.5%) felt the chances of being punished were low. This lack of a sense of wrongdoing is a main cause of the trend, KIC suggested in its report.

The report also blames the pervasiveness of the solicitations to which Korean male tourists are subjected. Those in their 20s and 30s are enticed by online offers for tour packages involving visits to prostitutes. Those in their 40s and 50s are openly approached by travel agents. Even those Koreans who travel to southeast Asia with no plans to buy sex are frequently lured into sex establishments by enterprising local tour guides.

Yet another factor contributing to the trend may be a severe shortage of women among the younger generation of Koreans due to the nation’s severe gender imbalance. By 2014 one in every five Korean men of marriageable age won’t be able to find a Korean wife of suitable age, according to a 2009 study by the Gyeonggi Province Family and Women’s Research Institute. By then the number of young men between the ages of 29 and 33 will outnumber women in the 26 to 30 age range by 381,300. The situation is blamed on a high degree of gender selection for third and fourth children, as well as a growing number of women who choose to remain single.

This is a typical bull-crap article.

There are hardily any statistics to claim anything that said above except for the fact that KIC seems to want to address Korea’s problems… while other Asian nations want to only blame someone else.

How many Chinese or Japanese visited South East Asia in 2011…? No other statistics? Were there any research done by other Asian nations…?

If you actually read the full PDF report of UN Office on Drugs and Crimes, the problem with South East Asia prostitution is not the Johns of ‘Korea’ but the HUGE, HUGER number of prostitutes maintaining a ‘hooker culture’ in countries like Thailand and Philippines. The entire country’s financial dependance is partially on selling sex.

If your sister was a hooker, you should be shamed and embarraced. It is your sister and her pimp who advertised and and sold her body. Don’t drag the entire Korean ‘contributing factors’ as the main problem here. You are simply ignoring the real cause of your cancer.

‘… based on various international sources…’

I don’t believe a thing comming from a typical Vietnamese person anymore. I have had experience working with three Vietnamese in the past and they were very lazy and always lied. How could anyone rely on sources that comes from these South East Asian prostitution circle is beyond me.

Only a few years ago, there were a large number of Chinese illegal immigrants caught trying to use stolen Korean VISA to enter Europe and other countries. my point is that people lie all the time.

You visit a typical western pornography site and see Asian females there pretending to be East Asians but they are mostly South East Viets, Philipino, or some darker skinned asians pretending like Japanese, Chinese, or Korean with names like ‘Katsumi’ or ‘Bang Lee’.

I can’t even recall how many times I’ve seen non-Korean asian acting as Korean laundry mat owner on American tv or sitcom, all these non-Koreans acting derogatory acts of Koreans just make a few buck.

Face it, when you see South East Asian prostitution circle, what type of customers do you see the most? Old white men. There are literally millions of Austrailian, German, old American vet or other white male customers living and visiting hookerville in Asia.

All these shameless sex workers just need to blame something else and they point to Korea.

By the way, there are more number of female hookers in China than the entire number of South Korean male population of about 25 million.

No matter how much you tried to fabricate, it just doesn’t add up.

Why are you peeps so worked up by the article? It’s a reprint from the Chosun Ilbo paper. I’m sure the intentions are good in trying to educate their own population to represent their country better when they travel abroad.

But men will be men wherever they come from. Everybody knows its prevalent in the area and people from everywhere participate in the industry, whether as customer or “service provider”.

I wouldn’t argue this if this were about Chinese men because how would I know if this is true or false? Does it matter? not really – the point is whether people are in trouble – in this case underage sex slaves – I’m going to say that regardless of whether Korean males are the main culprits, this will open the door to protecting young children in Southeast Asia more. After all, Japanese are CONSTANTLY being caught with kiddie porn involving Filipino children so THANKS to the Koreans claiming this is a Korean problem, this will move further towards going after people RED HANDED (just like the Korean mesh gloves everyone loves so much in America especially contractors – they are even featured as an item for the Horde in World of Warcraft!)

So don’t worry about the Korean identity – enjoy the thought that pedophiles are being hunted. No one thinks of Indians as rapists after New Delhi so no one is going to think too much about Koreans with this news because NO ONE thinks badly of Japanese sexual assaults because of what they have done, right?

We have to keep eating aggravation so that the hunt for Akihito and his ultimate humilation continues.

wikileaks, deniability, it all goes into the same cauldron of poison being poured down his gullet, nu?

Typical ignorant paranoid Koreans mixed with a dose of race supremacy. Unable to handle the truth, even when one of the sources (KIC) came from their country. There must be a conspiracy from the U.N., U.S, China, Japan, and the Sotheast Asian countries to make the South Koreans look bad.

It’s common knowledge that Japan used to lead all nation in this sort of activity (sex tour junket), so why is it hard to believe that South Korean given the competitive relation with their sibling Japan are not capable of outdoing Japan on this activity? South Korea has one of the top economy in the world, and South Korean men like any other men, having the mean and given the chance of course are going to exploit the poorer Southeast Asian countries.

The ignorant South Koreans can go ahead and blame the “hooker culture” of Southeast Asia for their own shortcomings, a term which is truly ignorant given Korean’s past “hooker culture” history not to mention who’s serving all of those American G.I. basing out of S. Korea. But if you have an ounce of brain you should think twice before blaming others.

You are hysterical. If you ever tax your brain, don’t charge more than a penny. Mouth full of manure doesn’t mean you have keen mind.

Southpaw · Feb 3, 12:17 PM · #

If my brain is not worth more than 1 cent, what does it say about your? Most people and you’re no different like to use the truth against someone else but have a hard time accepting it when the truth point back at them. Don’t be angry and accept the truth, then maybe you could be a better person. You and your race are no better than anyone else. Yes, definitely richer, but that’s not necessary better.

Sam0221 · Feb 4, 04:57 AM · #

Why do you use phrases like ‘…you and your race…’, ‘…dose of race supremacy…’ and ‘…speak the truth…’? Were you bullied most of your life?
Sounds like half-wit gave you a piece of mind and you are loving it.

Plenty of Korean hookers establishments near Camp Market in Incheon when I was stationed there.

Plenty of Korean women marrying Americans.

Sinopuppy · Feb 4, 10:53 AM · #

Friday and Saturday nights were the best in Incheon. U.S Millitary has about 25,000 personnel in the Youngsan Garrison Camp Market installation. There are thousands of Korean hookers and bars that service American personnel. The sex and food industry in South Korea exist solely on the good grace of Uncle Sam.

Helio7 · Feb 4, 11:52 AM · #

Most prostitutes serving GIs in South Korea are Russians and Philippinos working as ‘Juicy Girls’ with very few Korean natives. Back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, most were Korean native prostitutes but money isn’t good enough for Korean women to work near US military bases now. There are no US millitary camp in Inchon. Camp market currently holds about 600 US soldiers, it is a small camp within Yongsan garrison that is located in the heart of Seoul, not Inchon, and certainly not enough to hold ‘plenty of hookers establishments’.

I was stationed in Camp Carroll and the vicinity had about 5 to 6 bars catered for US military. I would say the most US military catered bars in Korea is about 100-150 at most, not THOUSANDS.

I understand your frustration. SKorea is over-supplied with well educated individuals willing to work very hard to succeed. Cynical neurotics like you can’t compete, so you resort to slander and racism fabricating as ‘THE TRUTH’. But if you are going to resort to lying your butt off, at least try to be somewhat convincing. :)

Sinopuppy · Feb 4, 01:56 PM · #

Wow so many new usernames. Nah not frustrated and just the truth. You can’t handle the truth.

Can’t compete?????????????????????????????

In the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, South Korean economy suffered national bankruptcy and relied on the financial bailout by the IMF that re-inflated, re-structured and modernized the South Korean economy.

South Korea: The ratio of the debt to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) stood at 37.9% in 2012.

South Korea household bad debt by the the RoK Financial Supervisory Service Board said the bad loan ratio in household lending grew to 69% in 2012,

South Korea GDP is $1.12Trillion USD with 73% due to exports. 42% of trade is China oriented.
