Biden Leaves for Japan to Discuss China ADIZ, N. Korea Issues

Washington, Dec. 1 (Jiji Press)--U.S. Vice President Joe Biden left for Japan on Sunday as part of his Asian tour to discuss China's air defense identification zone and North Korean issues.
After arriving in Japan on Monday night, Biden will meet with Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako on Tuesday and hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe the same day.
The White House has said that Biden will reaffirm the strength of the U.S.-Japan alliance and is, thus, expected to stress the U.S. obligation to defend Japan amid increasing tensions between Tokyo and Beijing.
Biden will travel to Beijing on Wednesday for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior officials.
During the talks, the vice president is likely to express deep concerns over China's recent establishment of the East China Sea ADIZ, which encompasses Japan's Senkaku Islands. But he would also reiterate the U.S. government's policy of promoting dialogue on political, military and economic issues, informed sources said.
