How to stop Thinning Hair? i have a dry scalp and have dandruff, what shampoo can i use ?

I am using right now heads n shoulders nd it is making it worse I am losing lots of my hair pls help !!!

Chosen Answer:

If your hair thinning is due to male pattern baldness then no shampoo will stop it because male pattern baldness is due to the DHT hormone. You need to block that hormone in order to stop hair loss if it’s due due male pattern baldness. There are only 2 drugs out there that are clinically effective in stopping hair loss due to this and they are Propecia (generic is finasteride) and Avodart (generic name is dutasteride). I have dandruff as well and I alternate between Neutrogena T-Gel and Nizoral shampoo every other day.I still have my hair and no dandruff.

Can you use hair loss treatment for just growing your hair?

This probably sounds like a stupid question considering the fact that hair loss treatments are for growing your hair back, but i didn’t loose my hair or anything. I just really want to grow hair because it takes so long to grow after i get it trimmed or just in general. I’ve been researching for hair growth products for the longest time and i thought maybe hair loss treatments could work to help my hair grow faster? Please help and let me know!!! P.s. i have color treated hair. (If that has to do with anything) thanks!

Hair loss around my cats right eye?

My male siamese himalayan ragdoll has lost the hair around his right eye, it is a neat circle of hair loss and is completely bald. He also has a discharge coming from his eye which is a dark redish brown. He keeps rubbing his eye. Sometimes the the discharge is runny and sometimes it sticks to his eye and I have to wipe it off.

Any ideas what this could be?
Waiting for the vet to call me back so I can get him in hopefully tonight!

Chosen Answer:

It could be mange, it could be allergy, it could be secondary to the eye discharge. He needs to see your vet to be sure it doesn’t progress to something that threatens the eye.

Can adderall cause hair loss or hair thinning? If so, is it reversible?

I’ve been taking adderall for about 6 years and never had any problems with my hair until recently. It’s thinning pretty badly on the crown of my head. Hair loss runs in my family, but not until late 50s.

Chosen Answer:

I have never heard or read about that but it could be possible. My guess is it is probably something unrelated.

What can I do to grow my bald spot on my head w/o drugs and lotions?

Last winter I noticed that my hair was falling off more than usual. Later on I noticed that I had about an inch wide bald spot on my head and as weeks went by the bald spot grew to about two to two and half inch wide. Good thing is that the center part had grown back a little but the remainder is still a not coming back. I have limited access to such lotions and drugs to help with the regrowth. So I need some advice as to how I can make it grow faster to let it grow at all. Thanks for your concern if you reply to this question.

Chosen Answer:

Welcome to the Club!
I suffer from male pattern baldness and I use Rogaine Foam for my remedy, I have noticed significant improvement in the amount of hair in the “Vortex” (top-back) area of the head in the past few months. Since you don’t have access to these medications like Rogaine or Propecia, which i think are the only two drugs approved by the FDA to actually re-grow hair I will say that your eating habits usually contribute to hair loss. Buy a multivitamin pill to ensure that you ingest your daily recommended dosage of vitamins and minerals and eat well. For more information on hair loss, visit the following website, this has cleared some of my doubts on hair loss and it will also give you direct feedback on today’s solutions for baldness.

PS. Consider also a hair transplant, if you can afford it, for which you will obtain information on the web site as well.

How do you make your hair grow longer ?

is there anyways i can make my hair grow faster ?

Chosen Answer:

Let me start by stating that there is not a shampoo or conditioner that promotes hair growth unless is it prescribed by a physician and contains either “Rogaine”, “Minoxidil”, or “Propecia”. The only draw back to using these products is you have to use them for the rest of your life. If you stop you will lose what the product has grown in.
Normally you will lose up to 100 hairs a day; every 30 days or so you will lose more due to replacement, a new follicle is pushing an old one out. The most common reasons for hair loss is ether medication, stress, or illness. If you feel your hair loss is excessive you should see your doctor to make sure it is not caused by the latter.
The only way you can grow healthy hair is to eat a healthy diet high in protein (Hair is composed of “keratin” hard protein) and take prenatal vitamins (If you are an adult woman.) If you are male all you can do is eat a healthy diet high in protein and take hair and nail vitamins.
I had a client who was pregnant and taking prenatal vitamins and her hair grew twice a fast as normal. It normally takes about 6 to 8 weeks before you start seeing results.
Do not forget to exercise regularly. Not only is it great for you but it will get your blood flowing and feed the follicles fresh oxygen.
Hair usually grows ¼ to ½ inch every 4-6 weeks.

Shampooing
When you shampoo your hair you should manipulate your scalp vigorously.
In order to grow healthy hair your scalp needs to be clean; by not shampooing you are defeating your efforts to grow healthy hair. I recommend shampooing every other day using a shampoo for chemically treated hair; even if your hair is not chemically treated. Shampoo that has been formulated for chemically treated hair has less detergent than a shampoo that has been formulated for normal hair. Detergent will remove to many natural oils and cause your hair to be dry.
Shampoo will not make your hair thicker. In order to do this the shampoo would have to create more hair follicles in your scalp; man cannot create a hair follicle.

Split ends
Also you need to have a trim every 6-8 weeks to prevent split ends. A hair shaft that has a spit end is damaged beyond repair. If you do not have your hair trimmed to get the split end off they will eat there way up the hair shaft like a “Pac-man” and you will end up with split ends from tips to roots. There is not a shampoo or conditioner that will repair a split end. The only repair for a spit end is to have it cut off. While there are shampoo and conditioners out, that make the claim of repairing split ends all they do is put either a wax or plastic coating over the hair shaft; when the coating wears off the spit is back.

Thickening
There is not a shampoo or conditioner that will make your hair thicker. In order for this to happen the product would have to create a new hair follicles in your scalp. Man cannot create a hair follicle. The only options open to you is either hair transplantation or extensions.

In closing let me state that trimming your hair will not make it grow. Hair does not grow from the tips like grass; it grows from the roots.

Hope this helps.

How to put a halt on my balding?

I’m gonna be bald someday. I’m not right now, but I can tell I will be. What procedures, medical or otherwise, should I consider to keep what I’ve got now before it’s too late?

Chosen Answer:

These are the current methods that have been proven to counteract baldness in men:

1. Finasteride (commonly marketed as Propecia). It blocks DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the blood stream. DHT is the enzyme responsible for male pattern baldness. It is a pill you take daily. Down side is that it can affect your libido.

2. Rogaine. Works in a similar manner to finasteride, but is a topical solution. You need to apply it to your scalp twice daily, everyday. Down side is that it is said to be fairly greasy so makes your hair look bad. That being said, if you’re going for kind of a slick look which is fairly fashionable these days, it might not matter much.

3. Laser cap. This is a relatively new device on the market. It looks like a baseball cap but is lined with laser lights. These lights deliver low level laser treatment to the scalp which stimulates dying hair follicles and rejuvinates them. Down side is that this is a very expensive device – likely around 3000 dollars.
