  • What does it mean if I try to save a page and it says "Network error"?
    Anonymous

Either there is no connection to the target server or unsupported type of file (PDF, XLS, .. or RSS/Atom-feed).

I cannot reliable distinguish between these two kinds of error :(

The list is not complete, because archiving is initiated by user requests. And they can archive any URL they like, even if I am not aware of that website.

Almost all of these snapshots are indexed using both URLs.
For example, this snapshot - http://archive.is/sa4Uo - taken first by arquivo.pt in 1997 and then re-archived in 2013 on archive.is, can be found by both the original URL: http://archive.is/http://www.lusa.pt/impreg/impreg/12MAR97/not0158.html and the URL or archiver: http://archive.is/http://arquivo.pt/wayback/wayback/id742788index5?pos=1&l=pt&sid=CFA9EE0F6FBB9DC227425C893349A213

    Yes :(

You can use http://archive.is/hWzY6#27% as a workaround.

  • I saved a page but when I went back to view it there is nothing except: <h1>Not Found (yet?)</h1>
    Anonymous

"Not found (yet?)" is shown for not yet allocated short urls. So it seems that you have made a mistake typing the url.

  • How far back do archive pages on this site go, i.e. what is the earliest archive of a webpage hosted on this site?
    Anonymous

    Spring 2012.

But there are some pages re-saved from other archives and they are definitively much older.

  • ¿Tiene algún plan para ofrecer versiones de su sitio en otros idiomas?

  • Why are adverts sometimes placed on archived versions of pages where there are no adverts?
    Anonymous

Perhaps that advert were intended to be shown only in specific countries (e.g. European or francophone)  so you did not see it but the archiver did.

  • Why do some web-pages take longer to archive than others?
    Anonymous

There are many things the loading time depends on. Number of elements on the page, webserver and network issues.

Also, some webpages load images and scripts from more than one server, and the slowest server sets the total loading time of the page. Even if that slowest server is needed only for something insignificant like social buttons or ad banner.

  • Is there any way that I can save video, from a site such as YouTube, along with the page when it is archived?
    Anonymous

    No

  • Once I archive a page, how long do I have to wait before I can archive the page again, if the content has changed?
    Anonymous

    5 minutes.

All submissions within 5 minutes timeframe redirect to the previous snapshot instead of taking a new one.
