Stuff to know about Propecia
When you ask people about Propecia, most of them will raise their eyebrows and look at you with a strange look in their eyes that tells you that they have never heard of this medication. And we strongly believe that this is, to say the least, strange. Namely, try and think about all the products that you have heard of that are used for stopping hair loss. There are dozens, if not hundreds. And have you heard of Propecia? Well, since you are reading this, you have, but before you heard of it, was there a commercial on the TV that told you about it or anything like that? No. And here is the main reason why we wanted to write something about this incredible medication that is for some reason totally unknown.
Propecia is a medication that has been around for decades and that has helped innumerable men keep their hair. We say men, because it is a drug that will only work for male hair loss and not female hair loss which is caused by an entirely different mechanism and that cannot be stopped with the use of Propecia. And yet, despite helping so many men, it is nowhere near as popular as some other solutions that are, quite honestly, laughable when compared to Propecia.
Propecia is a proper, bonafide, pharmaceutical medication that was developed a long time ago, with another condition in mind. Namely, Finasteride, the drug found in Propecia tablets, was first developed for treatment of enlarged prostate. It is a strange and an interesting story that involves a certain part of the Caribbean population, a few conventions and a collaboration of pharmacists from different parts of the world. However, what is important is that it was soon discovered that this drug can also do wonders against hair loss and that is when it was also formulated as Propecia that you can get these days.
The basic mechanism of action of Propecia is blocking the action of an enzyme called 5 alpha reductase. This enzyme is essential for a conversion process that turns testosterone into its more aggressive cousin dihydrotestosterone which actually causes hair loss (and funnily enough, enlargement of the prostate). By blocking this enzyme, Propecia stops the hair loss process as it diminishes the levels of DHT and thus lets the hair follicles recuperate after being decimated by this hormone.
It goes without saying that all of this has been proven on a number of occasions and that the clinical studies have shown that Propecia is extremely efficient in stopping hair loss. The question that we ourselves want to pose right now is what it is that makes men look for other solutions, most of them entirely pointless and inefficient if they have a product like Propecia that works every single time? It has something to do with advertising and the fact that people are lazy, that is for sure. Let’s just hope that this blogsite does its share.
