CFO Accepting Contributions to Paul G. Nahon, III, Athletic Scholarship Fund

The Community Foundation of the Ozarks is now accepting memorial contributions to the Paul G. Nahon, III, Athletic Scholarship Fund. The fund was established in memory of Paul Nahon, 20, a Springfield native and Glendale tennis champion who died last week from a fall while hiking in Colorado.

To donate online, please go to cfozarks.org/donate. Be sure to enter ”Nahon” in the Fund/Program field on the donation page.

Checks may be mailed to the CFO; please indicate the Nahon Athletic Scholarship Fund in the memo line:

New Funds Friday: August 3-16

As often as possible, we like to share the news of new groups and individuals choosing to make philanthropic gifts and investments in their community. Norma Harpster Memorial Fund – The Warrensburg Senior Center and Care Connection for Aging Services established this fund for the benefit of the senior center. To be invested in cash. Add’l AP fund for them, and is regional.

Killuminati Foundation Fund
– This fund supports the mission of offering financial assistance for non-routine vet care. This is a new Agency Partner in the environment and animals category.

Neosho Arts Council Long Term Fund
– This fund will hold monies not needed by the Arts Council in the immediate future. This is a component of the Neosho Area Community Foundation and a new Agency Partner in the art category.

Phelps County Flood Relief Fund
– This fund will support the needs of nonprofit organizations and other qualified entities serving Phelps County as they work on relief efforts. This is a component fund of the Meramec Regional Community Foundation.

Pulaski County Flood Relief Fund
– This fund will support the needs of nonprofit organizations and other qualified entities serving Pulaski County as they work on relief efforts. This is a component fund of the Meramec Regional Community Foundation.

 

Congratulations to the 2013 Missiourian Award Winners

The Community Foundation of the Ozarks would like to congratulate all of the winners of the 2013 Missourian Award, several of whom have a special place in the southwest Missouri philanthropic world and here at CFO.

Among this year’s winners, via the Springfield Business Journal (article behind paywall):

Leon Combs, the retired businessman and philanthropist from Bradleyville, who has done great good for students in the rural district though a fundraising 5K and 10K that brings in tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships annually. Combs also has a long history of service with the CFO and the Rural Schools Partnership.

Cheryl Burnett, the Director of Development at Missouri State University and beloved ex-women’s basketball coach is a board member for the CFO’s Table Rock Lake affiliate.

Dr. C.J. Huff, the superintendent for Joplin Public Schools whose leadership was the catalyst for the district’s rebound from the May 22, 2011 EF-5 tornado. Dr. Huff spoke at our 2012 Agency Partners luncheon.

  • Norm Ridder, superintendent of Springfield Public Schools
  • Dr. Bharat Shah, section chairman and plastic surgeon with Mercy Clinic Plastic Surgery and medical director of Mercy Medical Spa
  • retired NCAA basketball coach Tom Smith
  • Erick Taylor, president and CEO of Pyramid Foods
  • Glenna Wallace, chief of the Eastern Shawnee
  • Mike Williamson, past president and CEO of Empire Bank.
