UN secretary-general lauds Pakistan’s efforts towards peace and stability in the world
Every effort should be made to avoid civilian casualties in the use of armed drones, he said in remarks, after inaugurating an International Centre for Peace and Stability at the National University of Science and Technology in Islamabad.
The Secretary General, who is in Islamabad at the start of a tour of several countries, lauded Pakistan’s efforts for peace and stability in the world.
He said Pakistan’s engagement has been crucial in the UN peace keeping missions as one of the largest contributors to the peace keeping force and currently about eight thousand Pakistani soldiers were performing duties in different conflict zones.
“We will never forget the sacrifices made by Pakistani soldiers while serving under the United Nations flag.”
The UN chief said nothing can be done for the welfare of people without establishing peace in the world.
Speaking on the occasion‚ Pakistani prime minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz said the launch of the centre is in complete harmony with Islamabad’s policy of promoting peace and stability in the world.
Pakistan wants friendly relations with all the countries for world peace and stability and it remains committed to fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, Aziz said.

Kayani said Pakistan has always responded positively to the United Nations calls for global peacekeeping missions as the establishment of peace and resolution of conflicts in any part of the world ultimately contribute to international peace and stability.
The UN chief also inaugurated a photographic exhibition depicting role and sacrifices of the doctors and military personnel of Pakistan Army for the cause of world peace.
