Monetary Base Rises To Record Y170.38tln In July

TOKYO (NQN)--Japan's monetary base for July expanded 38% on the year to a record 170.38 trillion yen, marking the 15th straight monthly rise, the Bank of Japan said Friday.

The balance of current account deposits held by commercial financial institutions at the central bank surged 116.4% to 82.35 trillion yen, up for the fifth consecutive month. The balance also hit a record high.

The monetary base on the last day of the month stood at 173.31 trillion yen, up from 173.12 trillion yen logged at the end of June. The BOJ began releasing end-of-the-month figures in April.

The monetary base is the sum of currency in circulation and commercial bank reserves at the central bank.
