Which part of Japan is the Panasonic factory for cameras?
I'm trying to decide if I should risk buying electronics from Japan. Also anyone know where the fluorocarbon fishing line factory there is (there is only one in the world, shouldn't be too hard to find)? Same reason. People save any phoney reassurances, thank you. I'm talking about radiation in case somehow no one realises what risk I am talking about.
Wherever it is, it's not near Fukushima where the nuke accident took place. And they conduct examination for products which could have radiation before they ship it to the market. So there is no danger of radiation on camera.
OK, I'll give you a serious answer this time. Panasonic is part of the Matsushita group, which is Kansai based. Ergo the chances that any of the components of any given Panasonic camera were sourced anywhere near Fukushima are small. You need to realize that it's not like they shovel in raw materials at one end and cameras pop out the other. The brand names contract out many parts, and the smaller companies then contract out parts of parts.
Japanese tackle companies such as Shimano, again-they tend to Kansai based. Japanese industries tend to be regionally grouped, such as musical instruments in Shizuoaka and cars in Aichi. Tackle is Kansai, not that the fishing is great there. I can't promise, but I'm guessing that the "good" fishing line is probably manufactured somewhere in Kansai.
There is NO DANGER from buying anything from Panasonic. Don't you think the factory workers would be dying off like flies if the radiation was that high ?
Most electronics are made outside of Japan, so it won't be too hard to find what you want that was made in China, Thailand, or where-ever.
I can't deny the situation in Fukushima is dangerous...
