Japan's Trade Deficit Will Fall: Chief Cabinet Secretary

TOKYO (NQN)--Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Japan's trade balance will gradually improve at a press conference Wednesday morning, after figures from the Finance Ministry showed Japan had a record trade deficit for the Jan-June period.

Suga said that the cheaper yen has driven up the value of imports in the short term, but that exports are beginning to recover and that he expects the deficit to shrink eventually.

He also pointed to higher fuel prices, saying he would pay careful attention to overseas conditions and other factors, in addition to foreign exchange rates.
