Help for all users of Audacity 2.x on Windows.

This forum is for Audacity 2.x on Windows.

Please state which version of Windows you are using, the exact three-section version of Audacity from Help > About Audacity and whether you obtained the .exe installer or the zip.

Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade here. The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

Hello everyone !
Problem is that Audacity 2.0 won't start at all after a clean installation. Windows gives a warning and error code 14001. OS is Win XP SP3, and I downloaded the installer from here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/?lang=fi

I didn't find this matter from known issues, neither from this forum..

Here is the warning in english:
"C:\Program Files\Audacity\audacity.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

For 32-bit Windows XP, download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86). Double-click on the downloaded "C:\vcredist_x86.exe" file to run it and follow the instructions. If you are asked whether you want to uninstall or repair, choose "Repair".

For 64-bit version of Windows XP, please download instead Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) then double-click on the downloaded "C:\vcredist_x64.exe" file and follow the instructions as above.

Okay, that worked ! Now Audacity starts. Now I remember that some applications installed the Visual C++ automatically if it's needed. Thank you very much steve !
