Drugs Used For Erectile Dysfunction: Cialis, Levitra and Viagra
Marketed and introduced by the pharmaceutical company of Bayer and GlaxoSmithKline in 2003, vardenafil (Levitra) and tadalafil (Cialis) are now the two new manufactured next in line drugs which have the same effect as the successful Viagra introduced by Pfizer in 1998. These two new drugs are mainly developed by ICOS, a technology company, and are marketed by Eli Lilly on a worldwide basis.
Some reviewers and pharmaceutical companies have made an effort to compare each pharmaceutical drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction or impotence among the others from different clinical trials and with different patient populations. They have concluded whether Drug X is superior and more effective and safe to use compared to Drug Y and Drug Z. However, at present, the conclusion made about the comparison among these three drugs, Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra, is that these three are all very effective and are all very safe to use by male patients as a treatment for erectile dysfunction or impotence.
However, as conditioned by laboratory researchers, they have found out that among the three drugs used as a treatment for erectile dysfunction, Levitra is the most superior among the presently available PDE 5 or phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors as compared with Cialis and Viagra.
On the other hand, there has been no information gathered as to whether which among these three drugs work more efficiently and more safely for male patients with other underlying or comorbid diseases such as diabetes, respiratory problems, central or peripheral nervous diseases and etc. At this point, it can only be concluded by the laboratory researchers that Levitra is a highly effective and a highly safe drug that can be offered in male patients who are suffering from erectile dysfunction or impotence.
On the other note, laboratory researchers have found out that the other pharmaceutical drug used as a treatment for erectile dysfunction or impotence, Cialis, has a longer half-life and window compared to Levitra and Viagra. In medicinal terms, half-life refers to the time it takes for a certain substance to lose exactly half of its entity as well as its pharmacologic, physiologic, and radiologic activity. The window of Cialis is 36 hours which means that Cialis will remain in the blood stream of the male patient long enough to achieve and sustain a penile erection, and the efficacy of the drug can be maintained for 36 hours after being taken in.
Thus, it only means that the pharmacologic activity of the Cialis does not wear off easily and that this drug will work more effectively for longer hours as compared to Levitra and Viagra. So, it turns out that the male patient taking Cialis would not have to worry if he is not able to practice sexual activity soon after taking this drug. Another advantage of this, unlike Levitra or Viagra, is that the absorption of Cialis seems to not be affected by food. It only means that the intake of Cialis will work just as fine when taken with food or taken after meal.
