56 Earl St Vincent's Medal (Mutiny at the Nore), issued 1800. In silver gilt. 50 mm diameter. Some scratches to the face presumably to establish if gold or not. or small knocks and dents. The Mutiny on the Nore, which occurred in 1797, was the second of two that year in protest against the erosion of sailors' pay by inflation, living conditions aboard ship and various changes in the way the Navy expected its men, many of whom were conscripts impressed for the ongoing Revolutionary War with France, to serve under the flag. The unrest spread rapidly, and the Admiralty's refusal to concede led to a short-lived blockade of London by the rebel fleet, whose leaders' aims had become more widely revolutionary. Throttling supply to the mutineers resulted in their surrender in the face of starvation, and 29 men were hanged and many transported to Australia. In the midst of the Mutiny one ship which did not join the uprising was the ex-French HMS Ville de Paris, then flagship of Admiral Edward Jervis, Earl St Vincent. In testimony to this loyalty, the Earl had this medal struck for the Petty Officers, seaman and marines of his vessel; it was issued in 1800. Estimate £

60 A Fine Shagreen and Silver Gilt Mounted Dressing case. Circ a 1870. Made for The Earl of Home. Circa 1870. Earl of Home is a title in the Peerage of Scotland. It was created in 1605 for Alexander Home of that Ilk, 6th Lord Home. The Earl of Home holds the subsidiary titles of Lord Home (created 1473), and Lord Dunglass (1605), in the Peerage of Scotland; and Baron Douglas, of Douglas in the County of Lanark (1875) in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. Various Earls of Home have also claimed the title of Lord Hume of Berwick. The Earl is also Chief of the Name and Arms of Home and heir general to the House of Douglas. The title Lord Dunglass is the courtesy title of the eldest son of the Earl. This case was probably made for Charles Alexander Douglas-Home, 12th Earl of Home KT (11 April 1834 - 30 April 1918), styled Lord Dunglass between 1841 and 1881, was a Scottish peer. Home was born at the family home of The Hirsel near Coldstream, the son of the Cospatrick Douglas-Home, 11th Earl of Home. He was Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire from 1879 to 1880 and Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire from 1890 to 1915.[1] Lord Home married Maria Grey on 18 August 1870. They had five children: The most famous recent holder of the title was the 14th Earl, Alexander Frederick Douglas-Home, better known as Sir Alec Douglas-Home. After the unexpected resignation of Harold Macmillan, the 14th Earl was named Prime Minister by the monarch. For the first time in over sixty years, a sitting Prime Minister was a member of the House of Lords rather than of the House of Commons. Because he believed that it was impractical and unconventional to remain a member of the Lords, the Earl disclaimed his peerages in 1963 under the Peerage Act passed in the same year. He then contested the House of Commons seat of Kinross and Western Perthshire by standing in the Kinross and West Perthshire by-election, 1963. The seat had been vacated by the death of the previous Member of Parliament, Gilmour Leburn. The Earldom and subsidiary titles belonged to no-one until the death of Sir Alec Douglas-Home, when they passed to his son, the present holder, David Douglas-Home, 15th Earl of Home. Estimate £
